Shipoopi is written to be in the first scene of act 2. The movie and the Stroman revival moved it.

(Gotta say, I like It's You as a song but didn't realize til a few days later that it had been cut. So I guess I didn't miss it.)

This is one of the finest cast recordings I've heard in recent years. Absolutely beautiful. They captured it all so well. Love all of the dialogue and the extended instrumental sections. Glad this production was captured.

I think Sutton sounds like Sutton and I love that. Having seen the production, it's much easier to love her Marian when you see her acting and scene work. I adored her performance. She totally made the role hers in a way that only she could've. If you're not a fan of her voice on this recording, I guarantee you: you can't help but fall in love with her when you see the show. I also think she's just one of those voices that sounds better live.

THE MUSIC MAN (2022) cast recording is the most glorious, lively and full sounding album Broadway has produced since FOLLIES (2011).

Thrilling to hear a Broadway classic revived through lush music arrangements and top notch artists.

I may have not been the biggest fan of the production, but the album is pure joy.

Anyone find Jackman’s accent a little jarring? It feels like he’s trying to sound American, but you can’t help but hear his Aussie roots.

Could someone with more music theory and I help with something? I can’t put my finger on it but I feel like something about Jackman’s delivery is off…like I have the Robert Preston interpretation ingrained in me but I wonder is Jackman singing it more “as written” than Preston did or is he trying to add some acting choices and it’s leading to the rhythm feeling off? I feel like Preston drives the rhythm and Jackman sorta meanders around it. Any insight?

No doubt this is a lushly orchestrated effort thanks to the legendary touch of Jonathan Tunick marred IMHO by the vocal performances of the two leads.

I am not a fan of Jackman's renditions of these songs and Foster is vocally mis-cast as Marian Paroo, give me Barbara Cook or Shirley Jones.

I do appreciate the effort made to preserve as much of this score that was possible but this recording is nowhere near definitive.

Preston’s rendition of Trouble was set to a very strict, straight boom-chick. Jackman’s orchestrations are bouncier and more Dixieland, introducing a syncopation and swing that wasn’t in the original.

I was wondering why Jackman's reprise of "Till There Was You" is missing from this  essentially complete recording.

Then I listened to his rendition of the "Goodnight My Someone" reprise and I know why.

I find his singing truly awful here.  Unsteady, nasal,  and out of tune.

I guess we were spared.

This is not destined to be a favorite recording of mine.  I prefer OBC, Soundtrack, and Luker/Bierko revival.  So much better to these ears.

The Till There Was You reprise isn’t missing it’s tagged on at the end of the next track.

Oh this is awful.  Sutton's vocals are harsh and unlistenable.

Sutton basically shouting her way through My White Knight is…. a choice.

It’s a belty version of the song. I think they were right to give her this instead of having her sing the soprano one out of her range.

My thoughts exactly. Plus some other... interesting choices throughout. Can't say I'll listen to this recording frequently, or ever again. But those are some banging orchestrations.

She shouldn't have been cast.  Horribly miscast.

Sutton is perfectly cast in the role of the spirited librarian! Initially showing a Marian who is a strong woman against a town with its morality police... then fending off  a charismatic Harold Hill...until she sees that the man can make a town find its sense of community again, can touch a little boy's sensitive nature...and courts her in the most unusual way. How she sings Marian's musical numbers is not an attempt to show off vocal abilities...but the ability to interpret what the character calls for.

This recording captures the spirit of the musical and the individuals who populate River City...and the arrival & charm offensive of one Harold Hill.  It's a definitive recording because it recreates in the most possible & imaginative way the new revival's appeal.

Have you seen the show?

To each his own!

I did find it.  Thank you.  I honestly wish I hadn't.  I was just skipping around from track to track.  I liked Jackman's "Marian the Librarian"  but his slow ballad singing, especially here is sadly painful to my ears.

The orchestra sounds great, but that’s about as far as I’d go. Having not seen the production, in terms of overall listening experience, this comes nowhere close to previous recordings in terms of charm and performance. Maybe it needs to be seen to be appreciated? Sadly, this recording does Sutton no favors, and it seems like she wasn’t set up for success by being cast in the first place. I say this as a fan of hers, her ability, and her contributions to the musical theatre canon. A miss for me with some very odd musical choices, but glad others are enjoying it.

I've listened to the recording a little more... Like the production itself, it's "fine", but that's it. I love that it's a fairly complete recording with so much of the show captured, but it's just slightly... dull (like the production itself). This particular production just had no heart whatsoever.

Listening to Sutton foster just really made me wish I could listen to Rebecca luker on the 2000 revival cast album.

I  wonder if Hugh Jackman could concentrate on his performance yesterday given the news of his return as Wolverine. Someone shared that his entrance applause sounded like that famous first preview response to his stage entrance - but this time the audience likely giving their approval of his new project.

I’m sure a professional actor had no problem concentrating on their performance in light of an announcement that wasn’t news to them.

Not so much that the news is new to him... but how the news will be received. The news broke social media (70 Million views & 6 Million Likes in 24 hours). and appeared even on news media and of course the trade papers.   It is somewhat unexpected and could be considered controversial. But all's well - fans are already talking non-stop on a film project set to be released 2 years from now (Sept 9, 2024) and funded by the biggest entertainment company ( Disney).

I second, third, and fourth that sentiment. Luker was perfection.
