Thx!

Looking up the reopening info gave me such a rush of anxiety...nuts to look back and remember that time, even 3 years later.

Glad you had a nice time at Moulin Rouge, but why on earth is it being singled out here as the show that brought Broadway back? It was the eleventh show to open or reopen following the pandemic:

  • June 26, 2021: Springsteen on Broadway return engagement begins
  • Aug 4, 2021: Pass Over begins previews
  • Sept 2, 2021: Hadestown and

I just reread the release and I am afraid you might be right. It is after all MGM.

A musical film must have a star to get funding and attract an audience. There isn't a single live action film on this top 25 list that didn't have a star. And in this case if that star is not a Jew, there would be a whole lot of screaming that no studio wants to deal with. FIDDLER's not going to sell on its own.

They put out a press release with Kail's name because he was signed on, pre-Amazon MGM probably paid him a little money, and for a short time the project might have seemed real before it became not-real. And MGM wanted to have a bunch of projects in the hopper while they were trying to get sold.

Probably better off leaving FIDDLER alone.

Option A and Option B both tend to be coincidental things, by nature of it taking 16-24 months to get a tour out.

Most presenters' subscription seasons are set a year or more in advance, which is the primary reason why a show can't open in March and launch a tour t

My thinking is this was done partially as advertising. "Look what you'll get if you buy us!" I don't think any of the projects they announced will actually happen."

I think this answers the question.

Kail is not a hot film director, and I can think of very few legitimately famous fil

Getting national companies out is always a battle for shows, hits or otherwise.

If you surveyed most producers, I bet they'd advocate for getting a show out on BTTF's schedule, even if it meant sacrificing a bit of the Broadway revenue. A lot of shows can't get a tour out for 1.5-2 years and sometimes buzz/interest has died by then. The BTTF schedule is easier said than done and only doable because it's a big branded property and started in London first.

That's a decision of the producer (Kevin McCollum) and the landlord (Shubert Org). If Shubert doesn't need the house until springtime, there's no harm in it staying open if Kevin or another investor can cover the losses of the production via a loan. There have been rumors of Notebook being kept open for McCollum tax writeoff purposes, but I'm

It doesn't work that way.

This is a really good point, but I'm inclined to say the tour is

Eek!

If JULIET intends to start stunt-casting or star-casting, they should begin that immediately. I'm sure there are other shows that would love to play the Sondheim this spring.

Any word on timing for BTTF and WATER announcements? SUFFS, perhaps, has a little more leeway before an announcement.

On the plus side...

A surprisingly not-terrible start for HILLS OF CALIFORNIA considering the lack of stars. It's already better than any w

He and ScarJo would actually be great as Sky and Adelaide, though their most recent collab (FLY ME TO THE MOON) bombed. She played an Adelaide type in the Coen Bros' HAIL CAESAR.

That's not a safe assumption at all! Is it safe to assume she'll be offered the role? Absolutely. But offers are meaningless until an actor agrees and signs a contract. She was, allegedly, a top choice for Ursula in MERMAID and turned it down. She gets offered lots of projects, she can be choosy, and hasn't agreed to do an outright musical yet.

After his performance in MERRILY, I'd like to see Daniel Radcliffe as Nathan but he still might be a hair too young. There are so, so many famous comedic actors who could do the part better than Sinatra. Adam Sandler? Jonah Hill? Nick Kroll? Bill Hader?

Tons of Sky, Sarah, and Adelaide options too, depending how they want to go with the roles (and how race will play into the casting, if it plays into it at all).

J.K. Simmons would be a great Big Jule, unles

What a strange choice of writing team. Their work on Bad News Bears, Bad Santa, Cats & Dogs, and Jungle Cruise doesn't exactly scream "they should adapt one of the great musicals!" But let's see how it goes. Despite Marshall's mixed track record, I do trust his instincts when it comes to movie-musicals.

There have been so many attempts to make a new (good) adaptation of this show that I'll believe it's happening when cameras actually start rolling. But someone needed to rescue Marshall from Disney and this is an appropriate project for him!
