Hugh sends a message, as he arrives at the theatre very early.

Especially refreshing after his summer flop movie REMEMBRANCE was set in a futuristic world where climate change flooded Miami and kept people inside during the day because of the heat...yet he wore overcoats any time he was outside!!

The only thing people will be eagerly awaiting with regard to word from the first previews and then opening night is does it get an A+ or an A++++.

We’re talking about The Music Man. Headed by Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster. A feel good musical with great music and some super choreography.

This is a shoo-in. For success, and built in Tonys, from top to bottom.

The rest of the musicals don’t even have to worry themselves. Open up, enjoy, get your deserved Tony nods.

But the writing is as much on the wall for this as it was when Bette was announced for Dolly. You knew it was hers before they even went into rehearsals.

My predictions…Jackman, Foster, Best Revival, and Choreography, Sets and Lightning maybe.

Always open for the underdog win, but I don’t see it here.

I wouldn’t rule out the Company revival if I were you. One negative review doesn’t negate how successful and timely it’s been.

I’m curious how much it resembles the tried and true MTI version of the show and how much has changed or been rewritten, reordered, added, cut or altered.

We know that we at least have new orchestrations, and I would imagine new dance arrangements as well.

I don't know. My speculation was based on one of the cast members commenting "SHIPOOPI!" on their social media over this photo. It also seems odd that Harold is wearing such casual clothing, right? I guess we'll know after tonight!
"

I was also thinking Harold looked very casual for Shipoopi. Maybe it was just like a rehearsal shot? Though it would be sorta weird for Joan Marcus to be photographing that…
"

“Shipoopi” takes place in the gym as everyone is rehearsing for the ice cream social. It doesn’t take place at the actual event like in the movie.
"

Although the Susan Stroman-helmed revival had 'Shipoopi' take place in the same position as it was in the movie.

I'd say that without knowing anything about TMM, it's 50/50 whether Best Revival of a Musical will go to Company or TMM. It'll be an engaging discussion during awards season whether voters choose to reward a Golden Age Revival or a Contemporary Interpretation.

I ask myself, should a new vision be celebrated more than a perfect originalist revival?

Also... Company has a heavier hand on the scale right now with the recent death of Sondheim. That will certainly play into how voters choose to memorialize this moment.

This is something I've previously mentioned in the Company previews thread. The case for The Music Man to come out on top could be that it’s a more traditional musical comedy that’ll make everyone feel good after the rough couple of years the world has gone through. However, the case for Company could be that it not only offers a bold new take on a classic, but it’s also the final Broadway revival of a Stephen Sondheim musical that Sondheim himself got to be involved with. We have seen instances before where a bold new production of a musical ended up beating out a more straightforward presentation of a classic such as The Color Purple winning in 2016 over She Loves Me and Oklahoma! winning in 2019 over Kiss Me, Kate.

Looking at Instagram, there's no show curtain, just the barn set that was seen in most photos from the invited dress.

Anyone at the show tonight should treasure the experience since who knows how long before they also have to close because of positive tests.

The proscenium and flat are ugly as sin.

Friend def posted a landscape curtain so maybe that's for intermission. Agreed the barn look isn't great. Curious if this will be a "big" set.

Which thread has the "second hand" reactions? I'm curious.

Really hoping Company gets all the awards it deserves over this high priced spectacle.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I need a Music Man hoodie (if they have them) for my boyfriend’a Christmas gift.  Would someone mind posting a pic of the merchandise?  Thanks!
