I've also thought of Simmons for Lt. Brannigan.
"I know mention of their names can sometimes cause nuclear war, but........ Nicely would actually be an appropriate role for James Corden or Josh Gad, if they are approached and if they are interested."

Something I think would be pretty cool is if they get Alan Alda or J.K. Simmons to play Arvide Abernathy. Who knows if the former will still be alive by the time this enters production, but it'd be a cool full circle moment for him given that his dad was Broadway's original Sky Masterson. Same for the latter given that he played Benny So

I agree. After helming 4 VFX heavy films in a row, I'm glad to see him attached to a project that is more down to Earth. It's also nice to see him free from the Disney machine.
A new film adaptation of the 1950 classic musical, Guys & Dolls, which has been in development hell for a while, now has some updates. Rob Marshall has signed on as director. He'll also be producing along with John De Luca, John Goldwyn, Marc Toberoff, and Marc Platt. Not to mention that the writing team of John Requa & Glenn Ficarra are set to write the script. https://deadline.com/2024/09/guys-and-dolls-screen-musical-tristar-teams-rob-marshall-with-requa-and-ficarra-let-the-casting-speculation-begin-1236097910/

The difference there is that on paper, it looked like West Side Story would have a huge uphill battle to climb given that a number of people were probably going to view it as "a remake of a

I can't think only splitting the films into two parts automatically means they lose out on the Lead and Supporting Actress awards. It is true the emotional heft is in the second film, but then I think at least that film could get them the noms."
I think a more likely scenario is that it gets those nominations, but doesn't win either of them. I need to see it nominate
While I myself am looking forward to the film, I still don't see this being a major awards player. Nonetheless, Universal will be campaigning Cynthia Erivo as lead and Ariana Grande in supporting. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/wicked-awards-categories-cynthia-erivo-lead-ariana-grande-supporting-1236002089/
Starting in late October, Universal Orlando Resort will welcome guests to Wicked: The Experience - housed in the former location of the UNIVRS/Hello Kitty store - where they will have the unique opportunity to step into the fantastical Land of Oz. https://www.instagram.com/p/C_viwzvu13D/
I was fortunate enough to have attended the 2017 Tony Awards, the year he received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Not only that, but I also saw him outside Radio City Music Hall earlier in the day while rehearsal was going on.
According to Wicked News Hub on Twitter, "Review of “Wicked” from an audience member of a test screening! “The visuals were absolutely fantastic. Ariana as Glinda was the highlight of the whole movie. Everyone was laughing at her parts… When Jon Chu said they sang live, he really meant it because WOW!“." https://x.com/wickednewshub/status/1832591429408866748
Complete casting has been revealed for the upcoming national tour. Among those joining the previously announced Nick Fradiani is Robert Westenberg (yes, Broadway’s original Cinderella’s Prince in Into the Woods) as older Neil Diamond. https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Full-Cast-Set-for-A-BEAUTIFUL-NOISE-National-Tour-20240812

It's possible this project might've been affected by last year's Hollywood strikes.

My first choice would be a fresh face. It would feel complimentary to Carole's arc in the show as she goes from aspiring songwriter to superstar recording artist. By casting someone who isn't necessarily a household name, it would make things easier for audiences to quickly identify the actress as Carole King.
