Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season!
 Sep 24 2024, 12:59:49 PM

Re: Joy Woods

I think it’ll come down to the dressing room scene in act 2. The Benanti/Lupone scene is burned into my brain because of the incredible performances.

I’d agree. Love the show, love her vocals, but can’t seem to get excited by this production.

I’m in the “meh” camp. Everyone is talented for sure. But if just doesn’t feel like an event like it should. I loved Lupone’s Gypsy so I’m curious to see this one. That version’s “If Momma Were Married” is just glorious to me, so I’m excited to hear their vocals.

I’m expecting bare bones

Kit Connor, Rachel Zegler to star in Sam Gold-directed ROMEO + JULIET

I mean didn’t the director just do something similar in the previous show? I don’t think there needs to be interaction in Romeo and Juliet but maybe during the party scenes or something?

The last two revivals weren't hits. And Audra is a big deal, but not sure if this can turn a profit. But I think everyone involved knows this.

Saw a preview of the set and it looks simple and pretty with the lighting extending out into the audience.

Who is the frontrunner for Best Leading Actress in a Musical right now?
 Sep 15 2024, 08:52:37 AM

Hilty is giving a true comedic powerhouse performance. And the vocals. I think she'll def be nominated. But also Rogers is truly giving a star performance, and opening closer to the Tonys she might ride that high. We'll see how NYC receives this Sunset.

Saw the show in London so curious what effects were kept from the longer version. How does Act 1 end?

STRANGER THINGS to transfer to Broadway's Marquis Theatre in spring 2025
 Sep 13 2024, 01:04:31 PM

Yeah there’s a pivotal scene that takes place on a catwalk, but just depends how they stage it for the Marquis.

Lear deBessonet will be Lincoln Center Theater's new artistic director; Bartlett Sher will be executive producer

I think her direction in Into the Woods was sloppy.

I feel like Sher's direction kind of peaked?

Sondheim & Ives’ HERE WE ARE headed to London’s National Theatre in 2025
 Sep 9 2024, 09:09:17 AM

Great staging, but I thought Act 2 was a complete bore. Loved Act 1. And I love Passion and Bounce. I'd be curious to see how this changes for London. I don't think the staging would work in that giant theater unless it's playing the smaller space.

Denzel Washington to return to Broadway in OTHELLO?
 Sep 5 2024, 12:23:13 PM

I know this won’t be, but I wish it was going to be a massive production given how much $$ it’s likely to make.

THE NOTEBOOK to Close on Broadway on December 15, 2024
 Sep 5 2024, 12:22:03 PM

I mean it is not an out of left field thing. I’m sure it’s a giant pay bump because it’s a lead role, so the out isn’t surprising. Everyone in the industry knew it was going to close sooner rather than later, so I’m sure all of it was in the works for awhile. It’s a business. This things happen.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/1/24

And an attractive cast with good voices. I'm sure that helps. Plus - compared to your two examples - it's a subject matter that is easy to comprehend and sell.
