I’m sorry, but I find this supporting cast so underwhelming.

The Staunton revival had reduced/“new” orchestrations, and they were completely underwhelming.

Also, the Lansbury production was a planned limited run, as it was the final stop of the North American tour.

Burstein is obviously very talented, but I can’t help but feel his Herbie will be a rehash of his performances in Follies and Cabaret.

People say Imelda was better in the theater, but her performance is horrific on that film.

There was a lot more that went into that. Patti being famously banned from playing the role, and then being forgiven by Laurents who directed her in it to make up for his hatred of the Mendes' production was pretty much a once in a lifetime scenario. Patti was also close to aging out of the role.

Butz and Burstein are both bland choices for this role, IMO. They are also capable of tackling more challenging roles.
As someone else had said, Herbie would be best for a Film/TV name that has done some theater in the past.

Also, that's a relief they're using the original orchestrations. The "new" Staunton orchestrations/reduction were pretty dreadful.

We’ve been hearing about possible Company and Follies films for years, so I do take this with a grain of salt, but it would definitely be exciting.

Is it the original orchestrations?

Wow, I had seen Krakowski in the audience at one of the performances, and I thought she’d be an incredible Marianne, I think I might’ve even said it on here.

Why are already talking about a Ragtime transfer? The last revival was a big financial flop.

This reminds me of a problem I've always had with ''Hello, Dolly!'' Horace has only one song, ''It Takes a Woman.'' In the latest revival, starring Bette Midler, they restored ''Penny in My Pocket'' at the top of Act II, so David Hyde Pierce would have something to do, but it's such a nothing song.

This article also mentions that Herman didn't want "new concepts" from O'Brien.

From what I remember, Herman originally suggested Patti as a possibility for the role, then once a revival was being planned with Jack O'Brien, he changed his mind. The "too ethnic" reasoning sounded like a cop out, He likely wanted a Gower Champion re-creation like the Zaks production largely was. Midler was and is certainly "ethnic."

Unfortunately, Herman put a stop to Patti's revival with Jack O'brien because he felt she was "too ethnic."
It doesn't sound like she has any desire to lead a big Broadway musical production anymore.

Does Imelda have any warmth in this role?

Does 56-year-old Irene work?
