Blah. Was hoping for The Music Box, but I guess not. I think Groban and the universally wonderful reviews will be enough, though I still say they should have waited until spring.
Has anyone else noticed this? The twitter account posted a picture and video of rehearsal, and Amber Gray is in both. I guess she's back for Broadway, and Lilli's leaving for Spongebob.
There have also been pictures of Brittain Ashford from today's performance, so it seems that she'll also be returning.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
If they built the central playing area out over the orchestra seats and built stadium-style seating up to meet the balcony (a la Holler If You Hear Me) along with raised banquettes in the traditional stage/backstage area it wouldn't be too different from the arrangement they had at A.R.T. Just bigger. I could see a design like that being very workable, but the idea of them building all of that in only a month after Les Mis exits is crazy.
I think that they should cut out the balcony and anything under it, make that into a bar or something so they have minimal seats. The decision perplexes me. Every seat more than 700 decreases the power of the show drastically.
I appoligise for any spelling mistakes. I may be on my mobile. Clumsy fingers and small little touchscreen keys don't mixx. I try to spellcheck, but I may miss something.
The choice of the Imperial is quite a propos given the name of the house and the timeframe/ setting of the piece itself. Am sure it's just a happy coincidence.
Given the short turnaround, as it stands, between LES MIS coming out and NATASHA etc coming in, I wonder if the former may in fact come off sooner than advertised. It hasn't exactly been tearing up the Box Office of late, and there is no star name attached. If this were to happen it would be the second time that they've done this to John Owen Jones, as his stint as Valjean in the first revival at the Broadhurst was cut short by early closure. I hope this doesn't occur but it just doesn't seem feasible to load in Natasha in such a short period of time, especially if the Imperial is going to be adapted in some way to bring it in line with earlier venues for the show.
There's only one major difference between John Owen Jones's two Broadway stints in Les Miserables. The firs time around his run was in fact cut short. However, this time around, he signed up knowing full well that he would be closing the show. And, I honestly cannot see a big show like Les Miserabes being the kind that would close rapidly. You're right, it's not been doing stellar at the box office, but I feel that the powers at be involved with Les Miserables realize that, and figure that it's time for the long goodbye.
Obviously they knew all this when they signed the contract, so I'd imagine they have ample time to flip the house. Les Miz's set design extends out into the house, so I'd think clean up might take a bit longer than expected.
Are they already in rehearsals for Broadway? Seems way early.
QueenAlice said: "They must be doing some press events that they called the cast together to rehearse for. It's way too early for official company rehearsals."
The rehearsal was for a group sales event that occurred yesterday.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
In terms of the time between Les Mis closing and this starting previews, they haven't actually given a date for the start of previews. Les Mis closes on September 4th, so they could conceivably start previews at the very end of October, giving them nearly two months to make the necessary changes and tech the show.

The beginning is indeed slower, but it speeds up as it goes. By the end it's about the same speed as the original. I believe that speeding up is something Malloy added at the A.R.T run. At least I think I remember them doing it there.

Cool. Thanks for the answer. I wasn't able to see it at A.R.T. so it just seems a little off to me having only seeing it in Kazino.
