Actually - I saw The Music Man on Friday night from seats in the 7th row - and he did NOT look like that on Friday night at all. I know there is make-up - but I would assume that his make-up would have been similar for the Tony's. He looked very different just a few days before. So probably the combination of him starting to feel sick and then the schedule on that day contributed to it. Getting Covid twice in less than 6 months in your 50's is not a walk in the park - I'm sure - no matter how physically fit you are.

Also, stage lighting is beyond surreal so everyone looks great. If you ever go backstage during a performance at a Broadway show, you’d be shocked how garish, exaggerated, and harsh the make-up, wigs, and costumes look. The stage lighting neutralizes and softens everything. HD cameras doing a close-up? Not forgiving. For the Tony Awards their make-up is a softened version of the stage version - they’re not made up as they are for the Broadway stage.

As astonished as I am that they didn't cancel performances, I'm even more astonished you can't find more than one or two tickets during Clayton's week that isn't below $199.

I'd still expect tickets to pop up at TKTS.

He had an early morning call for the Tony Awards rehearsal, gave a matinee performance of the MM and performed again at the Tony Awards. He had every right to look washed out.

Sitting in my orchestra seat of Company. Lupone, always a trooper, is out. Makes me wonder if we are going to be viewing the Tony’s as a superspreader event. Refunded MM, but keeping these seats because will otherwise miss it. I am beginning to think MM is not want to be. In addition to the other postponements, my last set of f tickets were for Christmas week. Since I am a far out-or-gowned, am now hoping that someone decides that this should be recorded for Netflix or some other streaming service.

For those wondering, I stopped by theater today at 11:00am and got a single $49 rush ticket for tonight my seat is Orc P9, a seat very near where I had taken my mom in January for $279 with Hugh in!
Looking forward to seeing Max!

Max is wonderful in the role! He and Sutton have captivating interesting chemistry; I really like the May-December dynamic they have found, and his scenes with Winthrop pull heavily on the heart strings (there was an audible sigh of pleasure through the audience when the young actor rested his head on Max's shoulder). Marian the Librarian was a particular delight, as Max positively soared through the choreography with plenty of energy left over to spar with Sutton.
He dances the hell out of the role, and his voice is also strong, although the sound design was all over the place, with his mic nearly muted during group numbers and ensemble mics turned up to 11. I have seen many, many productions of The Music Man over the years, and Max is one of very few who make me actually believe in the heel turn for the finale; you really feel his Harold fall, in spite of himself, for Marian, and the look he gives her when he says "for the first time in my life, I got my foot caught in the door." made me tear up.
Rush tickets are plentiful; don't miss your chance to see Max's wonderful performance!
