Why has he been banned?  I find him annoying as hell, but do t remember reading anything truly offensive…mostly stupid and hyperbolic.

Who is the frontrunner for Best Leading Actress in a Musical right now?

I'm personally pulling hard for Chenoweth- she is absolutely overdue for a second Tony after 25 years since her first and she amazingly has only been nominated three times throughout her career. She's one of the best Broadway stars of all time. It's a shame she had to go up against Kelli in The King& I nine years ago. I remember not being that bowled over when I sawOn the Twentieth Century but I've fa

Anyway, the discussion here led me to look up (in old NY Times ads) some top prices from well-known shows. In case it is of interest, below is what I found (the Producers price is actually from a news article, not an ad).

Guys & Dolls

Today: $83.04

Gypsy

Meanwhile, I was at the stage door the other night and one of the performers (I don’t want to specify which one) made a very STRONG hint that November 10th is likely not going to be the end, but the details are still being finali

a transfer is always possible for the right show but just because a cast & show appeals to niche theatre folk doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to appeal to the masses. Sometimes actors also say yes to something for 2 weeks out of town that they’d never agree to do for 9 months in New York. We shall see!

Spelling Bee could be f

I think BTTF has been helped because it is a show parents can bring kids to, and they hear about the car ‘flying out over the audience.’  Silly as the latter sounds, I have not seen the show — no interest — but I have read more about the curtain

SUNSET BLVD to transfer to Broadway
 Aug 21 2024, 01:55:42 PM

I did upgrade once and it was a ridiculous process.  The person I spoke with took the info and said someone should get back to me within 48 hours.  Long after 48 hours, I decided I would live with the seats I had.  Naturally, I received a call the next day, saying the request had been approved.  It was the same person I spoke with; she explained that it took longer to get back to me because she was sick for a few days!!!!

Ironically, after all

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES musical will have pre-Bway tryout this summer in Boston

I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out if there has ever been a big musical built around such a ridiculously shallow person.  I haven't remembered one yet, although there are probably a few where the character gets their comeuppance before the curtain comes down, which is not the case here.

While I was never bored, I just thought it was such a waste of talent, just as Versailles -- at least the one in Orlando --  is such a waste of good money.  Better it

IMO, she deserved serious consideration for:

Lead Actress:

Rosemary's Baby

Supporting Actress:

Hannah and Her Sisters (very moving -- the soul of the movie IMO)

Broadway Danny Rose (hysterically funny)

Radio Days (hilarious)

She was also great in virtually every other Woody Allen movi

The reality is that it is starting g to die at the box office and can only expect its grosses to stay flat or go down.  They are probably thinking that the only was they can remain open is if they hire someone who will sell tickets.  Sadly, I suspect it will be closed in a few weeks.

I do find it encouraging that grosses are up about 6.5% this season 12 weeks in, comparedto the last at this point. Granted, we’ve yet to experience the fall and winter slumps, but there’s also some BIG-TIME star power joining the boards as the weeks go by, and more still to be announced.

The disparity between the newer productions and pre-pandemic mainstays needs to be addressed, though.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 8/4/24

I am thinking that WFE and BTTF are both looking pretty vulnerable.  I do not know, but I assume their weekly nuts are a lot larger than Notebook and Suffs, which may not be correct.  I wonder if Oh, Mary is going to extend a couple of months at a time or announce an open-ended engagement.

I continue to be be surprised by The Great Gatsby's grosses, given the horrible reviews it received.  Maybe it is true that the best way to see this is to know or care nothing

The reviews are better than the show.  I cannot invision anyone liking it without Chenoweth in the lead.  This is right now an old-fashioned vehicle that does not have a clue re what it wants us to think about Jackie.  In the absence of that, larger than life Kristen Chenoweth helps.<

I saw this tonight, with 6 other people.  All had generally the same reaction.  Why did anyone think that the Siegels and their particular undertaking warranted a musical?  Although they tried early in the show to humanize Jackie, by demonstrating that she was a bright, hard working high school student / college student with multiple jobs, the only reason anyone in the theatre cared at all about her was because she was played by Kristin Chenoweth.  She just came acros
