Wicked. The OBC so amazingly captured the best qualities of the show and cautiously transferred them onto this wonderful soundtrack. The orchestrations are amazingly powerful and the performances (in particular, Idina & Kristin) are splendidly captured. Idina sounds amazing and her 'Defying Gravity' is spinetingling and Cheno is as phenomenal as usual and her 'Popular' is perfectly sung and very funny. There is a lot of debate out there regarding Schwartz's music/lyrics but I think theyre unique, beautiful, and thrilling even though it takes a few listens to the OBC to really begin to love them. A wonderful OBC.

But now that I've been listening to Wicked since it came out, I've actually finally gotten sick of the original cast, not the current cast. Rent is still amazing. Spamalot isn't so funny anymore, and I've just purchased the soundtrack to The Light in the Piazza and that blew me away! I've also just purchased the DRS soundtrack which is great too. Here is my new list:

I do listen to many classics. The thing is WICKED, is my favorite show and has a specila place for me because it reminds me of a certain time. But I ama a fan of classics.

Oh, Rent, by far. I can listen to Seasons of Love and One Song Glory over and over again.
Edit: Oh, and Wicked. I adore Wicked, but Popular and Defying Gravity are almost starting to get played out in my book. Maybe it's because when ever I mention Wicked to one of my friends, those are the songs they always start singing.
Another edit: Don't worry Urban. Seussical rocks, it's hard to get tired of it.

Okay I also cannot believe Wicked isn't completely played out for all of you but hey different strokes...
In honesty only 4 (I say that becaise I really love JRB and wanted to put Parade or L5Y on here but I go in phases and they are temporarily played out for me) :
1. Rent- I know there may be wicked fan<->rent fan comparisons, but IMO Rent is an amazing peice of art that succeeds on so many levels where Wicked falls short. (*cough* score *cough*) (I can feel the Wicked Fans breathing down my neck) Also it holds so many memories over the past six years that it will never get old.
2. Tick, Tick... Boom! - This is actually my favorite (not necessarily what i think is the best) piece of musical theatre ever. I just relate so much to the score and story in general, and it was performed so beautifully by Raul that it just never gets old at all. It's just so emotional (listen to the downstage center interview on Raul's website for a taste of what type of impact it had(has)).
3.Assassins (revival)- I love this recording and show so much. In a word excellent.
4. Sweeney Todd - Same feeling as above but I'll add to them that Sondheim is a genius (like it hasn't been said a million times before)
