Anythings on what shows and what songs people would like to see this year
1) Hadestown- wait for me 2) Cher show - medley (hopefully show off the costumes). Id also like to see Cher join them 3) moulin rouge - preview. Maybe a little come what may or your song 4) a huge James Corden opening with Cher and Betty Buckley. Bernadette and Patti Lupone filled with gorgeous dancers like Charlie Williams. Ryan Steele. 5) a Hugh Jackman. Neil Patrick Harris And James corden showdown. 6) or Id like a carpool karoke with Patti lupone Bernadette Barba Liza Cher and Bette. 7) sidewalk musical of sound of music or Oklahomo
I assume that the Best Musical and Best Revival nominees will all perform.
Are there rules around shows that didn't get nominated performing? I do remember that Summer performed last year, but they also had a few other nominations.

Someone please jump in if they know more specific rules, but generally if you want to pay for it, you can perform. Hell, we could potentially see a performance from King Kong, the way they showcased Spider-Man.
My only specific thoughts on Tony performances right now are that Hadestown should do Way Down Hadestown because I can't think of the last time a show had a more perfect Tony-ready number. Catchy up-tempo title song, features all five leads + the company, and it's almost exactly five minutes. Done and done.
For The Prom, I'm hoping they do something with the Broadway actors... "It's Not About Me" or something similar. I'd be down with a medley for this one. The kids scenes are really entertaining in the context of the show, but every time they perform one of those on TV it feels like a misrepresentation of what this hilarious musical actually is. I want to see Leavel and Ashmanskas highlighted, which might logically happen anyway if they get nominated.
Roundabout loves a medley. On the 20th Century and She Loves Me were both medleys so wouldn’t shock me if Kiss Me Kate is also one. I think Wait for Me for Hadestown is the safest bet. It’s an amazing production number and is the most commercially appealing. I think OP is on the dot with The Cher Show and Hadestown but everything else is very unlikely except maybe the sidewalk musical and the inclusion of Carpool Karaoke but not with those performers.
Judy, I agree those would be the best songs for hadestown and the prom to do. In my experience, however, shows rarely chose what I think would be best. I’m still betting on Why We Build The Wall even though I think it’s a bad move from a marketing standpoint. The Prom will probably do Its Time To Dance although it’s not the best choice to highlight the stars of the show. Plus The Prom could really use some good marketing so let’s hope for an adult lead song.
I’m not sure about what shows will get to preform as this is a large season and if a show like Pretty Woman wants to preform for marketing but gets no nominations will they allow it?
As for the rest on your list, theatrefanboy, it seems unlikely that that many non-show performances will occur as there is a growing backlash against award show hosts being unnecessary so I’m guessing an opening number referencing all the shows (think (and I’m sorry to bring this up) 2017 opening) and a carpool karaoke number.
We are spending a lot of time guessing which songs Hadestown and The Prom will promote. I wonder which ones Be More Chill will perform. Tootisie looks like a one-man show, so it will probably focus primarily on Santino with others in the background....
Tootsie will probably do the song that’s Michael auditioning as Dorothy. I want to say it’s called “You can count on me” or something like that. The only song I know from Be More Chill is Micheal in the Bathroom so that’s my guess.

There are a lot of 'what If' factors on what I think they will perform.
IF Jason Tam gets a featured Actor nomination OR it gets nominated for Best Musical, I think they will perform the title song.
But IF George Salazar gets a featured actor nomination OR the show DOESN'T get a best musical nomination but they shell out the money for a small slot anyway, I think they will do, "Micheal in the Bathroom."
After seeing Hadestown, I feel like Chant could be the perfect number to perform. Partially because I feel like Wait For Me is so special that I want people to experience for the first time in the theater.

Be More Chill won't be nominated for Best Musical so I don't see them performing unless...
George at this point highly doubt he'll be nominated as that field of featured is packed with better talent

I'm betting on Hadestown doing a Livin' It Up On Top/Way Down Hadestown medley.
I just hope The Prom doesn't do It's Time To Dance. Please, no more. They've done enough press with that song. I'd love to see It's Not About Me in order to show off Beth.

I don't know. With the early reports that Beetlejuice is a bit of a hot mess, I think that it has a chance. A SLIM chance, but a chance never thr less. It could slip into the 5th slot as the ones fight for the 4th slot are all pretty close I feel. I do agree about Salazar's chances of getting a nomination slipping away though, but heard good word on Tam who could still slip in. And I am sure they will perform nominated or not. They need the exposure.
I wonder if we’ll get performances from any plays or not. Just to play off my Jeff Daniels/Bryan Cranston thread I think it would be fun if they had some bit between Bryan as Howard and Jeff as Will from the newsroom or something. Not sure how it would work, but just an idea.
I’d love to see Hadestown do a melody of Livin it up on top into Build the Wall. I’m excited to see if they end performing on anything else leading up to the tony awards. I think it’s the perfect show for Jimmy Fallon

This would honestly be my ideal for them. As Grey and Page are their likely best chances at acting wins, it would be wise to feature them both. "Wait For Me" feels like it would be giving away to much of a good thing for free and Carney is not their strongest performer of the bunch. I could see them doing a small bit of "Living It Up" (which has a very commercial appeal to it) into using some of the opening of "Hadestown" with the 'That was not 6 months' and 'You're early. I missed you.' exchange being the transition point. And it's my wishful thinking really that this happens cus part of me gets a little pleased at the idea of subtly comment on the the state of the world in 2019 by choosing to sing "Why We Build the Wall" on Broadway's big night.

I actually think they could do a medley of the two (the title song AND MITB). The transition between the two could be an abridged version of Jeremy and Michael's argument (maybe a combination of the Upgrade argument and the pre-MITB argument), and the songs would go really well into each other.

There's been a best revival of a musical category with only two nominees before, most recently in 2011 (I think) with How to Succeed and Anything Goes. It also happened in 1995 with both the best musical (Sunset Boulevard and Smokey Joe's Cafe) and best revival of a musical (Show Boat and How to Succeed with Matthew Broderick) categories.

Cher show probably won't get a bm nom
why would moulin rouge waste the money when they will probably perform for free in 2020?
Way Down Hadestown would be the smart choice for Hadestown, despite the fact that they won't be in the Kerr and likely can't descend into hadestown at the end of the number. Wait for Me or Why We Build The Wall would give, imo, an incorrect impression of the overall show and neither are upbeat.
I definitely see Beetlejuice paying a performance slot even if they don’t get a best musical not. They’ve really ramped up their marketing. I have no idea what they would perform though.
