Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/22/24

Cabaret probably won't do this since their entire business model is to (hopefully) have a rotating batch of stars in the lead roles for years, but...they really should have Adam Lambert record a song from the show and release it as its own single. I've heard from many people that they were blown away by his vocals (cuz duh), and this includes folks who saw the show with Eddie and much preferred Adam's performance.

I am personally very intrigued by Adam and Auli'i in

Audra will initially sell tickets but that won’t last long. Danny doesn’t sell tickets. They really need one star outside of Broadway to keep the sales strong."

Well...they WERE looking for a major star. And it was offered to many A Listers, none o

Little Shop...Who Leads? Anyone know?

Always difficult to find that kind of information compiled for Off-Broadway.

I believe The Fantasticks is the longest running. 17,162 performances across 42 years.

Perfect Crime ran for over 13,000 performances. Not sure what their exact final count was.

Blue Man Group and Stomp would also be up there.

The one caveat for Back to the Future is that Universal is one of the producers (their theatrical arm) and there could be a world in which they want to pump money into it to keep it running if they feel it helps the overall brand they are trying to build (with tours and other sit down productions). But yes, the show is simply too expensive to run at these grosses. A Jan/Feb closing seems imminent.

I don't know anything off the top of my head that is looking to come in that wo

Great numbers and the seating chart for the rest of the shows very few seats under $300. Lucked out and found a couple of $170 seats, but that looks like a bargain now.
"

I've been told that their intention/hope is to run until June. But it all depends on how confident producers are that they can keep the "must see" vibe going with each extension. I'd expect them to announce another

The Broadway Journal reported that Water for Elephants has a weekly operating cost of approx $960,000.

The circus elements, and sky insurance for those acts, really balloons the price.

I'm guessing the producers of The Notebook have some data that may suggest that their target audience is more likely to attend in the fall, since they have been struggling all summer. It would sort of make sense I suppose (the title has a connotation of being a "weepie" and summer family tourists want grand spectacle, not heavy emotions). But at this point I just don't know how they can right this ship. Does anyone know their weekly nut? It's not a huge show, but I

Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk & Bill Burr Will Lead GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS on Broadway, Spring 2025
 Aug 8 2024, 03:07:58 PM

Good grief, how many times are we going to revive this play??? And do we seriously need ANY more Mamet on Broadway after all his BS?

A friendly reminder of his quotes/beliefs as of late:

"Now we have kindergarteners being trained in a bizarre catechism of sexual identity politics."

"What we have is kids not only being indoctrinated but groomed, in a very real sense, by people who are, whether they know it or not, sexual predators. Are they abusi

Hate to say it, but this has been a rumor in the industry since it happened. And the evidence isn’t not convincing given there were other sho

'CATS: The Jellicle Ball' at PAC reviews
 Jun 24 2024, 05:44:39 PM

This production absolutely blew me away. Count me as one of the folks who intensely disliked Cats. But now I'm a total convert. The framing device of a ballroom competitions works incredibly well and I think helps with a lot of the pacing issues I normally think are inherent to the show. And for many moments, it provides really heightened stakes and/or context that makes a number even more fascinating than normal. The staging for Memory is INCREDIBLE. So simple but so effective. Broadway Flash said: "I think Florence Pugh would make an excellent Sally"

And here is part of the problem with the stunt casting they want to do (and need to do) in order to cover their astronomical running costs: Florence Pugh is the type of star who would be a great get for them. She is an Oscar nominated actor with major appearances in two majorly popular franchises. They would surely be happy to have someone like her. BUT would an Oscar nominated actor with majo

If The Outsiders takes Best Musical, what else does it win? I think it might have Lighting Design over Illinoise. But nothing else. It would have to make a surprise win in either Book or Score I think. Or maybe take Choreography away from Illinoise too for the The Rumble...but that seems less likely.

Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season!

Will Swenson on his name alone would not really light up the box office, but I do think a savvy PR team could get some prime coverage of this and get the married duo out there in the press so that it becomes a big story that husband and wife are performing together. That could certainly generate some interest. However, I don't expect Audra and Will to want this. When they were in Beautiful Noise and Ohio State Murders at the same time, both of them remarked how difficult it was navigating

Performances at the 2024 Tony Awards
 Jun 6 2024, 05:04:49 PM

Ugh, so annoying that Stereophonic wasn't allowed to perform. IF they deny a Best Play nominee and then go and let something like Back to the Future or Gatsby have a number despite not being nominated in a top category...that's crazy. Plays always get less air time at the Tonys, so its very disappointing when we have one that has excerptable material yet it isn't allowed to be showcased. I guess I'll just listen to Masquerade for the 999th time on Spotify then...

Don't know if this has already been stated somewhere in this massive thread...but for those who were asking about other creatives:

Scenic Design: Santo Loquasto

Costume Design: Toni Leslie James

Lighting Design: Jules and Peggy

Sound Design: Scott Lehrer

They also plan to cast 2 other major star names, though no contracts have been signed in this regard.

There are many different ways to approach race in a show like this where you are dealing with a real person and history. You can go the Hamilton route, you could lean into the race of your performers and how the world would perceive them at that time period, so many different directorial choices to make. You have no idea what George C. Wolfe is doing with his approach to this piece. So to declare that a particular actor cannot play a role because of their race when you have no clue what the c
