Rent - On the cast recording, I love it when someone's noisemaker fizzles out when Benny appears during Happy New Year. It always makes me laugh. Anyone else have those tiny moments that make you laugh?
I consistently laugh at the pause in "Three Bedroom House" from Bat Boy before Meredith sings "No, honey a three bedroom house." Its such an awkward pause, and then her just smoothing over it with the next lyric is priceless. Updated On: 8/28/05 at 01:42 PM
For some reason when Kerry Butler said "armed guards..." "WITH ARMS" and waved her hands like an octopus I was dying laughing. No other Penny since has made that line remotely funny.
This is in musicals, right? Not just cast recordings?
In Spamalot, when Herbert's father grabs Herbert by the arms. Herbert goes limp and flops around, making that "ahhhhh!" noise he makes, while his father tries to stand him upright. I laughed so hard it hurt.
Hero tells Psedolus that he in love with the young woman in Lycus' house.
Psedolus says: "A common courtesan in the House of Lycus?" Hero says: "Is that bad?" Psedolus responds: "There's no way to make it sound like an achievement!"
In the DRS cast recording, Sherie's snorting laugh right before introducing Dr. Shuffhausen. Its like "Who's the one person in the entire world you would want to see?..."Grandma?".."hahah no". OMG. I laugh so hard everytime I hear that!
In "Take a Chance on Me" from Little Women, Laurie goes, "I won a medal for boxing at school." And, very softly, Sutton just goes, "hmf." It makes me laugh.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
Oh God, this is so hard! I love that one scene in DRS, when Gregory Jbara is trying to convince John not to take Norbert on as his fellow conartist, and Greg is saying he'll go to the fair, or something, to buy him a pencil. John asks him what he means, and Greg goes, "You know, one of those giant pencils...oh, I don't know." And the mix of his accent and the look on his face kills me.
I also like in Over the Moon, on the Rent OBCR, when Idina is mooing, and everyone's mooing with her, and to get them to stop she makes this dramatic "uh!" noise. You guys know what I mean, but it's hard to really explain. Anyway, I think it's funny, I always love doing it when I sing that song.
Idina's "Oh my GOD." in the beginning of RENT's "Finale B". I can't help giggling. I think it's the accent and the way she sort of half-whispers it. It's just breaks me up!
DRS: "My own personal Zamboni!!" Just the way he says "Zamboni" you know, even if you HAVEN'T seen the show, that every one of his teeth are showing. It's hilarious!
Also in DRS, but the show, not the OCR: When the bellboy steps on the dog and runs off stage. Dear God! My side was aching for the rest of the show because of that!
I LOVE the part in Urinetown during Follow Your Heart after Bobby (Hunter Foster) says "I didn't know two hearts could speak as one!" then Hope(JLT) says "I DIDN'T EITHER! Until now..." in the gosh-darn cutest exasperrated voice ever. I can remember walking around the library with my ipod on one time and almost doubling over because I realized how funny that was.
In Miss Saigon. YOU WILL NOT TAJE MY CHILD!!!!! And up to the point where she shoots Thuy and then the whole chorus comes in. CHILLS I TELL YOU, many chills in that scene.
ok, in Little shop, when seymore goes 'what do you want me to do, slit my wrists?!?!' and the plat goes 'ahhhhh!' or 'hmmmmmm' depending on the recording you have. I always crack up- especially in the movie version (with rick moranis)
AND
in the movie grease, (NO i haven't seen the show so i am not sure how this goes in the actual show)
during summer nights when someone goes 'can she give me a FRIEND?' and then kinicki has his brush and flicks it at him and it makes this 'doing' sound. its hilarious!
"talent is wanting something hard enough to work for it" - my drama teacher :)
In Rent during "You'll See" when Benny looks up Angel's skirt to make sure that using "boys" to address them all is appropriate. Even better when the actor playing Angel has a good reaction.
