"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Ahrens and Flaherty have posted the following on their FB page:
hey will be dimmed on Wednesday, Sept. 19th at 6:45, at the theaters where she performed.
Gershwin (Theater Hall of Fame) Nederlander (Pretty Woman - for Jason) Broadhurst (Enron) digital marquis with her photo Shoenfeld (Passion) St. James (Bullets over Broadway) Hirschfield (Kiss Me Kate or Man of La Mancha)
Possibly the Lyric ( Ragtime).
Information will be updated as warranted.
If you want to add your voice to the campaign to dim the lights at all theaters, use the hashtag #dimforMarin on your social media outlets.
I'll certainly be emailing St. Martin.
Are any of you planning on going to see the lights dimmed? I'll be there. I'd also like to lay a bouquet of sunflowers in her memory, but not sure where the best place for that would be.
There is no edict. She is not the one who decides. The whole point of the Committee is that the landlords get to decide this, which makes sense since it is their property. The League as a whole (it was never done by fiat) is out of the business of deciding.
I suspect the reason the Lyric was not included is that ATG is not a part of the cartel.
What about the Vivian Beaumont? She performed in The King and I there. They should also dim the lights. Frankly, i don't care who the ultimate decision maker is regarding dimming the lights. it show a total lack of class and respect on the parts of those that choose to not do it, whether it is Charlotte's decision or some committees. The people that decide need to do the right thing this time as the last few times they have screwed up royally,

Pretty sure that a committee and not St. Martin decides. Also, might want to be careful Hogan about calling it a cartel.
The league can only ask or suggest for theaters to do so, and they likely set the date to make it easier for confirmity. I GUARANTEE there would be no problem if a theater not already on the "list" dimmed their lights, too

It's NOT her decision to make, you fool! All this is accomplishing is that some folks will be creating a few days of hell for the very nice receptionist at the Broadway League.
@Hogan, as someone who appreciates your insight and intelligence, I will say that people are better at taking criticism and correction when they aren't condescended to right at the beginning of it. Your posts that begin with "Why don't people think" (or some variation on that) come across as very condescending. Many people, including myself, DO put a lot of thought into the points we make on this board. We may miss something, or we may be making incorrect assumptions, or we may lack knowledge in a certain area, but we're all using what information we have to come to certain conclusions.
Your knowledge is appreciated, but it would be more appreciated - and more effectively spread - if you treat people more respectfully.
Since there is no spokesperson for the committee of theater owners, it is entirely appropriate that messages to them as an entity be sent to Charlotte at:
Charlotte St. Martin President, The Broadway League 729 Seventh Avenue, 5th Floor New York, NY 10019 Main Telephone: (212) 764-1122 cstmartin@broadway.org
@JBroadway you may very well be right. I don't think I am ever disrespectful of thoughtful posts. What I find exasperating are posts (like many in this thread) that are not thought out, or that are lazy in the sense that there is information that is readily available to the poster but that is disregarded in the statements that they make. Certainly when someone says they don't know something or that they are guessing something (as I often do myself) I don't think I condescend in response. I will say one more thing. Some people seem to attack people (including me). With one exception (relating to a poseur whose posts are basically fake) when I attack it is to an idea, not a person. I may call someone out in one thread and praise them to high heavens in the next. I do not recall ripping any post of yours apart (maybe I have) but maybe your post is not about you. (To me, posts about me are basically off-topic, and that includes yours here, but I get it.)
@PalJoey to me it would be more appropriate to address correspondence one feels the need to send to the committee in care of the league. Clogging up her mail box and public email box, especially in light of the short time span, will only delay getting the message to the responsible parties.

She's the head of the league. If she really wanted to honor Marin Mazzie, she would do it. But she doesn't, for some strange reason. Many people feel that the Broadway League could do more. As for calling me names..... we don't know each other.....let's keep it that way.

On Twitter, Daryl Roth has mentioned her desire (to the Broadway League) of seeing all of the Broadway theatre lights dimmed for Marin Mazzie.

The Lyric announced on Twitter a little while ago that they’ll be dimming their lights as well.

Is it just a dimming of the lights or is there some other recognition of what is happening? I tried to look it up and found photos of the Imperial with a photo and short message but that may just be because they have a digital marquis so it's easier to put something up.
I am really getting sick of having drama about marquee dimming every time a Broadway legend passes. It ends up taking time and energy away from actually remembering and commemorating legends like Jan and Marin.
So here's my question: what, SPECIFICALLY, is the procedure for deciding these dimmings? Charlotte St. Martin seems to be in the most logical position of power to make these calls, but some on here have said she’s not actually the point person for it? When Marin passed two days ago, for example, what EXACTLY was the chain of command that followed to decide whether Broadway would dim for her? And if only some theaters, who decided which? Do the theater owners themselves decide, or does it come from The Broadway League?
I'm tired of there always being a hullaballoo when we could simply just dim the fr*gging lights. Dimming a marquee does not require a massive undertaking. Literally, the house manager just needs to remember to shut off the lights for one minute and turn them back on.
There needs to be a clear, transparent protocol in place.
I don't think all the theaters dim their lights for anyone... I remember I was going to a show the day they were dimming for Elaine Stritch, so I assumed they all did, so I stood outside of Studio 54 (the closest Broadway theater to wherever I was going).... and nothing. And many people were standing there for the same reason, so we all just shrugged and went about our business.
