What is with all of this bile directed at Taymor? She is one of the hardest-working, innovative directors in the world. I would give anything to sit in on one of her rehearsals. I'm not sure what's going to come of this Spider-Man musical, but her reputation is based on solid, beautiful work with a clear sense of vision.
I didn't say all would keep an open mind...but many will. Case in point: Corbin Bleu in ITH. The boards went nuts with negative thoughts about this casting choice...but LOTS of those folks went to see him (Perhaps hoping to see a terrible performance) and MOST of them agreed he was quite good, if not VERY good.
I think people here are just as happy to be proven wrong as right.
I also don't think stating they think it will be terrible is bad-mouthing it. The opinion part is simply implied. Besides, do you reallly think the opinions of a dozen BWW's are going to AFFECT anything? REALLY. I want to hear what others think, and then make my own decision.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

You are right I just get bored of reading threads about Spiderman and straight away it's just full of negative posts, its boring. Im all for anyone kicking the crap out of the show when it opens and they have seen it and hate it....then go for your life. I just want to read a thread about Spiderman which does not contain EVERY post been so negative towards it.
Its like a thread full of sheep, all saying he same because they read it in the post lol
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
I guess it all comes down to perception - it seems to me that the "sheep" on these boards are those herds who adore every lowbrow show that opens, but hate the few pieces we get to see that show some intelligence.

I agree with that as well

"Respect what people dedicate their time to. Regardless of the budget"
Here's my issue. Exactly HOW much money was invested in this? Think about that, and about the amount of time it has taken to get to where we are now. I'm not in the industry, but i'm not a kid. I feel like even when (if) this show opens, it's not going to have a long run. How much is it going to cost to run. I'm pretty sure it may never recoup all the money.
Also, just a question about the show itself. Has it been finished, as in the score and lyrics?

I grew up reading Spiderman comic books and he was my favorite character to follow. I'm really looking forward to seeing the show and I really could careless what others have been saying about the show.
Theatre is for something for you to go experience and make an opinion on what you see for yourself. I may either love or hate the show but I'll go in with a clear head and make that decision for myself.
The show won't have to play five years to break even, they just have to charge a thousand bucks a seat, that's all. And throw in a night in the Hilton hotel. With an all-you-can-drink minibar (after the show you may need it - or better yet, before the show).
"How an earth could you know that, think that or assume that before a any performances
Thats what i don't understand"
I DON'T know, that is why I said, I FEEL like. Seriously though, when you think about how much money is being put into it, and how the economy is in the crapper, no one is going to pay over $125 bucks for very long. I say at TOPS, it will last 4 months to 4 years, and close due to not enough income.

In response to singtopher's earlier response, I don't know if we have the same friend, but I also have a friend in Spiderman who started rehearsals and has had a costume fitting, so this really is happening (I HOPE!)
Just my opinion....But if I were a producer of this show I would allow sites like this exclusive access to rehearsals, interviews, etc. prior to opening to generate interest. If everything is in place and they are sure they are opening, it could be a good thing to counter the bad press. I also wonder if U2 is doing a song from the show on their tour? That wouldn't hurt either.
I'm on my last trip to NYC before the school season starts back in August and I walked by the Hilton today and noticed alot of work happening at the Hilton. The orchestra pit was completely gone and filled with some metal silver set piece. Looks like Vegas has come to broadway! I can't wait to see this show!

Sorry -- THAT would not be a selling point for me. I don't WANT B'way to be anything like Vegas. I want it to be B'way.
To the poster that suggested to 'respect' the project that folks put their time into: REALLY? I'm sure Charles Manson (and countless others) put TIME into their endeavors and didn't see anything wrong with it either. No one is disrespecting any individual by thinking this will tank, might not open, etc.
