Why would a daughter be embarassed of her mother cheering her on for her work in a show, especially at the final performance of it? It was the last performance of the show, the last time she'll get to see her daughter onstage in this show (as well as Sebastian's).
Because it's rude and disrespectful to the rest of the audience. This is why Idina coming out of the trap door in her red jumpsuit pissed me off. This is why pranks that were added for the leaving of actresses in Wicked piss me off. Some people are there to see the f*ing show.
And someone's loud clapping throws off the entire show for you? Is that not supposed to happen regularly?
I understand about Idina's last - I was there, and thought it was rude to the others who were going to the first time. However, small antics in other last shows for cast members (such as overdoing "Popular" a la Kristin) where it really doesn't change the course of the musical is fine in itself.
After been with a show a long time the last night is an emotional night, we like to have fun on the last night and play pranks or have jokes, and 99percent of the audience are they because its the last night so expect all this stuff.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
I agree, and excuse us BETA for believing in the true definition of live musical theater - a performance where anything could happen. That's what makes live theater great, the fact that it is unfolding right in front of your eyes and it's not necessarily certain!
Everyone in the audience went overboard with the applause and cheering, but that's what happens at a closing show. The performance was amazing. I was crying at the beginning because that music is just so beautiful when it's just the flute. I met Alain Boublil and he signed my playbill. Awesome!
Pirate Queen was always such a feel-good show to me. I was always happy for days after seeing it and I'm still feeling it even though it's the final performance. I'll miss this show more than any other show I've seen go, but I know the fans will still show their support in the future if the show tours or when the cd comes out...all that stuff. It really was a lovely musical.
"But I can tell you that Raoul, who was so handsome in "The Phantom," is now a drunken wreck."
I'm really disappointed that people actually can't stop attacking each other because some people want to support a show. For God's sake, it's a message board. Some people are actually sad that the show is closing. Give them this one day. It's unbelievable. I am truly sorry to the people who actually wanted relevant information about the final show and can't get it because of some of the idiots on here.
I will say- Stephanie was fantastic. She has blown me away all three times I have seen her, and a huge part of the reason I went back to the show was because of her. Toward the end it was obvious that everyone was getting very upset. There was some crying from many of the cast members. When Stephanie started crying during one of her last songs with Hadley, I almost lost it. I was disappointed they didn't make any speeches, but what can you do?
The stage door was CRAZY. Had to be a hundred people there. Stephanie didn't come out (it would have taken her hours, I'm sure), but everyone who did was very gracious and seemed to appreciate the support. I now have a poster filled with lots of signatures that I love.
The cast is wonderful, and I wish everyone involved luck in the future.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
So what? If she is, that's lovely. If she's not, oh well. It wouldn't be the first time we had a sock puppet. Leave her alone.
Thank you to Ashley and the others for the more sensible posts.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...
"Every day has the potential to be the greatest day of your life." - Lin-Manuel Miranda
"And when Idina Menzel is singing, I'm always slightly worried that her teeth are going to jump out of her mouth and chase me." - Schmerg_the_Impaler
So I went today for my first time...and as I expected, I really liked the show, even though it's flawed. I love Boubil/Schoenberg music, and loved the feminist spirit of the story (and it probably helped since everyone was cheering all the moments that the women overpowered the men in the excitement). Stephanie and Hadley and Linda were fantastic (I can see why many people felt this show deserved some Tony nominations...I would have given it to Linda over Charlotte and Rebecca), and it's always nice to see a show with such an excited audience.
I was in the back of the orchestra, so I couldn't see the tears, but there were a couple of times I could see Stephanie kind of closing her eyes and taking a moment while the audience applauded the end of a big number.
I was a little surprised that there was no speech, but still. Most of the audience was standing before the lights came up for curtain call.
And I "met" (my that of course I mean got them to sign my playbill and said they were great, because that's totally meeting, I swear) Boublil and Schoenberg. That was awesome, I just adore their scores, and boy I was grateful for that.
(BTW, amalou, were you behind me at the stage door? Comcast?)
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
"Does anyone else find B3TA07 very annoying. Just wondering."
Yes.
Popular made a thread specifically dedicated for JUST the final Pirate Queen show. I did a search for "Pirate Queen final" and this is the only thread that popped up.
For crying out loud it's not like she's posted something on here that's been mentioned a million times.
So get your panties out of a knot and calm down.
"We like to snark around here. Sometimes we actually talk about theater...but we try not to let that get in our way." - dramamama611
Maybe the boy is just mad that nobody will ever be cheering loudly for him? And living in Texas is certainly nothing to be proud of...
I'm sorry I never got to see the show, the story doesn't appeal to me, but the set did look pretty cool. Best of luck to the cast and crew... and their mothers and fiances.
If Lincoln were alive today, do you think he'd be pleased with his tunnel?
jimnysf, I think you meant "Hot Feet" not "Happy Feet".
Technically Mambo Kings never made it to Broadway. Some of these other shows should have had the foresight of either really fixing their shows, or cutting their losses early.
I would like to point out that this falls into a category of flops known as: "Shows they TRIED to fix and couldn't." Breakfast at Tiffanys/Holly Golightly, and Homer, Sweet Homer/The Odyssey are examples.
Carrie was a show they COULD have fixed, but didn't try to.
Hello. People... young ones and others... let's try to keep things in perspective. Life goes on. Two... how were things at the stage door? I'm sure people would like to know about that. from Roman in Austin, Texas...
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
So, I realized I forgot to make my comment: "Good luck to the cast and crew in their future endeavors, and while I am not suprised it did not have a run of considerable length, they all did the best they could with the material, and should be proud of their work."
It's ironic that someone mentioned Sebastian being there. I was sitting in my seat and thought I saw him, but then I figured it couldn't be him, because this guy looked like he was 12. But it turns out it WAS him!
It was brought to my attention that I was bashing SA. On that note, I wish to apologize for this error in judgment. Please, do realize that these words were written in anger to Ben's comments, and I intentionally would not bash any Broadway Show. I am truly against this action.
However, I will say that I am sadden by the sexuality of this show. I believe that Broadway theatre should be uplifting and inspiring. (not to inspire the awakening of adolescent sexual desires). But, that is just my opinion, and of course I am not in the opinion of the majority.
So again I apologize for any comments that may have been derogatory.
And Techeverlasting...yes I am Stephanie's mother. Just ask Popular.
