I will miss this show. I saw it in Chicago and thought it was fairly good for its' pre-Broadway run. It had SO much potential, so I was so excited for it to open in NY. But from what I have heard they did not fix the biggest flaws that were in the show. I really wish they had fixed them, because the show had SO much potential. They could have brought this show from a C to an A+ show, but it seems like the creative team did not take the necessary steps to do that, and that is why I am sad for this show

Ben, you are fighting with a mother. I find that rude, and on top of that you are fighting with a mother of an actress in a thread to celebrate her performance in a closing show. Seriously, I have had my bitch fights on this board but dude...show some respect.
"I never had theatre producers run after me. Some people want to make more Broadway shows out of movies. But Elliot and I aren't going to do Batman: The Musical." - Julie Taymor 1999
In regards to the applause thing: WHAT? Is there seriously a problem with cheering on the closing night of a show? That's ridiculous. Hell, I'm not related or engaged to Stephanie (or any other PQ cast member, for that matter) and I was doing my fair share of cheering. And I loved that people around me were doing it.
Lakezurich- I completely agree, at least from what I've heard. I didn't see it in Chicago.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
Miss Block's mom or not, Lady Italy is currently my favorite person for every word she's typed in this thread.
And her name kicks ass.
And, to stay on topic, if I had any money, I would totally have gone to Pirate Queen for the dual purpose of seeing Stephanie live and annoying the hell outta B3TA.
I liked The Pirate Queen quite a lot, actually. I do, however, get infuriated at the untapped potential of the show. If you want to see me get annoyed, you can do it for free online by seeing Popular shill The Pirate Queen like TicTacs at a Bad Breath Convention.
I will add to my previous post that the probblems with this show were in no way the cast's fault. Each and every one of them was stellar, and they only did what they were getting paid to do. I wish everyone in the cast the best of luck.
And as a side note I will definitley be the first in line at my local Best Buy to buy the cast album.

I wasn't there today. I would have liked to be, but my funds are limited. However, I was there this past Thursday, and the entire cast did a wonderful job. I'm sad to see this show go, I would have liked to see it last at least a few more months. Best of luck to the entire cast and crew!
Does anyone know if the show was sold out/was the theatre full?
"Blow out the candles, Robert, and make a wish. Want something. Want something."
I just want to thank those of you who shared your experiences at the show today.
The rest of the crap in this thread is just too ridiculous to respond to. For a wannabe composer Ben sure talks a lot of crap. One day he'll realize how small this world is and that it doesn't revolve around him, but I'm guessing he'll have burned too many bridges by the time that happens.
Popular...people are going to say what they what whether you or anyone else likes it or not. Your beloved show is gone but I still wish them all the best. People take this way too seriously.

Totally agree, Lakezurich. A thread that should've been full of well wishing became a mean spirited thing. That's sad we cannot even agree to send a show out with well wishes for the cast, crew, and creative teams without turning it into a bickering match. I may have hated the show but really felt this thread was created with the best of intention. Oy!

thank you Worded, if all of you who are bickering would just stop posting this board would be a much happier place. We could all sit around a camp fire and hold hands and sing Koombaya... or something...

WordedGrace - It WAS created with good intentions and I'm glad that was apparant. Yes, I realize people can and are going to say whatever they want. I didn't think that asking for this thread to remain civil was too much but apparantly it was. I've been reading these boards long enough to know better but the rudeness never fails to shock me.

Yes, a very enthusiastic audience this afternoon. The cast was certainly giving it their all, and I'm glad I got to witness the final performance. It was my fourth time seeing this, and to be honest, the whole thing is such a bore. There was one good moment in Act 1 (I'll Be There) and one good moment in Act 2 (She Who Has All), but other than that, I just wanted some excitement, some decent music, and a comprehensive book...is that too much to ask?
Still, the cast was fantastic and I'm sure they will all work again in something more worthy of their talents. As a huge fan of Stephanie Block, I will say that she is SO MUCH BETTER than this show allowed her to be and I'm looking forward to seeing her in another project more tailored to her talents.
to honestly tell everyone the truth i actually loved pq and sjb very much to god. i am sad pq closed it could have been better like what everyone is saying
Humming...Kumbaya as he writes this. Popular, glad you agree with me for a change, lol.

"I can't believe that so many young people would rather see STAGE PORN."
I wouldn't consider SA stage porn, Lady Italy. There was one sex scene with very minimal nudity. As a young adult, I found that although I couldn't relate to the show 100%, I did find some aspects of it I could relate to, such as dealing with parents and going against authority. That's one of the reasons why it is pretty popular among young people - a lot of issues presented throughout the show is what WE are dealing with. So, in a way, it can be uplifting and inspiring, depending how you look at it.
My mother would probably have the same opinion as you; she isn't necessarily rushing to see this show. I think a majority of parents might feel this way about the show. Hey, you're entitled to your opinion.
Getting back to the subject, again, I wish I got to see Pirate Queen before it closed! I was going to go with someone on Saturday, but he backed out. Boo.
