No, as a quick review of my posts will make clear, only when warranted.

I was expressing an opinion and another way they could've handled the change.

Right, a way that would result in FEWER persons of color employed in the business.

How do you even know I'm white?

I'm willing to bet. NYT Updates on Restaged Depictions of Race in Book of Mormon, Lion King, and more Happy to be proven wrong.

And so many people complained that it was racist, so they took it down. And a black coworker was like "Wait, so just all monkeys are racist now?" So yeah, it's an interesting topic."

It's a crazy world. To some it's an overreaction, to some it's not enough. As much as we want there to be, there really isn't a one size fits all for any cases like this, regardless of the type who might be potentially offended, even among those who belong to that type!

Satire is history IMO because there is not one movie, Broadway show or TV series that does not have every line checked because it may offend somebody and that alters the ability to make fun of somebody or group. Let's take a show like "The Producers", could they run on Broadway today without massive changes? Would the character "Roger" have to be totally changed because of the "over the top" depiction of a gay man. Audiences back then thought he was hysterically funny, would it be funny in 2021? If they did change it would it alter the enjoyment of the show? The old ladies tap dancing with walkers had the audience howling with laughter, would it now be considered ageist to make fun of them?

I have not seem BOM in quite a few years so I don't recall every last detail of the show. The intent of the show was to poke fun at Mormons and Ugandans and it wildly succeeded. Ok, you can change race depictions in the show but you leave in where they say "F**** God". Not sure I get why leaving that line in the show is ok and not considered offensive.

It shows how bad things are when there is debate about calling "Rafiki" a monkey in "Lion King" when the character is actually a monkey - OMG.

The Producers was problematic at the time for many people, it just got brushed aside when anyone said anything. Musical theatre still has massive problems with portraying gay stereotypes, even if just small supporting roles they are usually camp and there to get laughs.

The only thing a quick review of your posts makes clear to me is you are a contemptible person hiding behind a screen looking for reasons to be insulting and argumentative.

You assuming what race anyone is without it being revealed speaks volumes about your own discriminatory nature, which you love to call others out on.

You are entitled to your opinion. Some agree with you, many don't.

No, actually not, but it was not an assumption, it was an informed bet based on the white privilege that oozes from you posts. I offered to be proven wrong but u did not take me up on that. The offer still stands.Have a nice evening.

Please provide an example of "white privilege oozing out of my posts" aside from what you gathered in my reply on this thread. And I wish and would have no problem proving you wrong or right in person.

This is bad journalism.  "when an actor unaffiliated with the show denounced it on Facebook as "racist"" is completely incorrect.  Griffin was in the original workshops of Book of Mormon and has made money off of it for years so he is very much affiliated with it.

"Political correctness" ebbs and flows with prevailing opinions and norms, and what some negative label as PC is what others would consider morally appropriate.

I have always found it interesting that Rafiki is always played by a black woman in international productions where the rest of the cast are cast locally. Meaning that often, the actress playing rafiki, is the only person of african descent in the entire production.

In the Taymor production, Rafiki is less of a magic mandrill and more of a living embodiment of Mother Africa. She’s a person, an animal and a concept. Simba briefly becomes this amalgamation himself, when he self-actualizes and dances with a group of modern African citizens in the second act out of nowhere.

I agree with the previous points that changing the Lion King is ultimately a win-win. It won't hurt the show and everyone will be comfortable in it.
