Off Topic: Is it just me or does the Guys and Dolls ad we are getting on the right of the board look LESS interesting now that they've put the Sky and Sarah actors' names on it?
"That blows for the line of people waiting. I walked by around 4-ish and there were a handful of people sitting in the lobby waiting for rush tickets, I guess. So she did the matinee? Well, at least she only called out one show."
There is no matinee Wednesday. She already only does five shows weekly. At least she made it through a full cycle of five shows before she missed one, so I guess that's something.
And I was one of those people waiting when you came by. I think they could have made the announcement earlier: shortly after I got there at 2:30, a guy came in to exchange his tickets because his booking agent had sent him an official notification that the performance was canceled because Liza couldn't go on, but the guy at the ticket window said that wasn't true and wouldn't let him exchange. It wasn't until around 5:30 that they told us there was no show because "Liza is sick" and please get out of the lobby unless you're buying tickets.
And B3, in my opinion, for the past year, the Guys and Dolls revival has been getting gradually less interesting and appealing with each new press release.
"I just want a story and a few good songs that will take me away. I just want to be entertained. I mean, isn't that the point?"
This odd statement can be found on Liza's website:
* Liza is fine, but tonight is cancelled:
Liza is fine, so please do not worry -- but tonight's show (Wed) is canceled.
Awaiting an official statement, but the important thing is that Liza is fine. Please do not worry. She is expected to return on Friday, as Thursday is dark, of course -- but more info will come thru on Thursday. Again, Liza is and will be fine. Certainly you agree that is ALL that matters.
Followed by this offical statement:
Due to health reasons and doctor’s orders, Liza Minnelli will not perform “Liza’s at the Palace” this evening.
Co-producer John Scher stated, "This past opening week has been a marathon run for Liza—which unfortunately has led her to dehydration and her doctor has insisted she get some extra rest. Liza will return for the show’s next scheduled performance on Friday, Dec 12th (8PM)."
I don't find the statement odd. What else do you want them to tell you?
And before the mean spirited nastiness begins.....
Cher cancelled more than half of her recent run in Vegas of her 80 minute show ( 50 of which she actually performs). Janet Jackson also cancelled her recent tour a lot, Elton John also cancels frequently, Madonna has cancelled, and even the divine Miss M has had to cancel twice recently. People get sick.
Liza is a Broadway trouper, kids. She has two days to rest up. By Friday, I'm sure she'll be feeling much better. I sure hope all is well, but I doubt she wants to be ill. This is her big comeback...and what a comeback it is!
The message from Liza's website is not "odd." It is directed toward her fans, who worry about her well-being, and I'm fairly certain they felt the need to stress that she is fine because of people like some of the posters on this board, who see that she has canceled and automatically deem her drunk, "cracked out," washed up, etc. People get sick. Stuff happens. It just almost always seems to happen to Liza, and people hold it against her.
Also, it really bothered me that the headline on this very website had the word "dehydrated" in "quotes" as though allegedly she is sick. Ugh.
I walked by the Palace today on my way to the Helen Hayes, and people were very upset outside when they realized the show was cancelled. What was hilarious was that there was this guy standing outside holding discount flyers promoting his show saying "Liza has cancelled tonight's show. As an alternative to seeing Liza, here are some discount coupons for Rock of Ages!" I was dying of laughter. Better to see nothing in my opinion.
We were 3 of the unfortunate people who had tickets last night. I'd been so looking forward to the show. My partner looked at me when we realized that there would be no show and said "it's ok buddy, you can cry." (I didn't though, surprsingly) I heard people saying that this happened to them 15 years ago...one lady said that back then she had 15 friends coming in to the city from out of town and she cancelled. I hope she feels better...BTW...the word under the marquee was that if you bought tickets on line, like I did, you received an automatic refund. Only people who bought at the box office were able to exchange tickets for future dates.
"The price of love is loss, but still we pay; We love anyway."
I agree that the statement on her website is idiotic. Do you think she'll be fine?!
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
I'm sure last nights performance wont be the only one cancelled between now and Dec 28th. I was hoping to catch the show Saturday night but Im sure with last nights show being pulled all remaining seats will be taken now by re-bookings.
Flashbacks to waiting for a refund when she didn't show up for VICTOR/VICTORIA. A fistfight broke out, because someone trashed her. Not pretty, the poor man was almost eaten alive like Sebastian Venable.
