Oh my god LOL that CANNOT be real.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I think this song sounds a lot like Why God from Miss Saigon. Or, at least the chorus does.

Ugh. How can I take him seriously as a disfigured circus freak after seeing him naked? Clearly, not very many people would pass up the chance to get with that. Cristine is a moron. Why is she looking at his face?

Well, the Phantom is also kind of... well, I dunno, a murdering sociopath. That could play a teeny part in why she decides to go with Raoul.

Because his body is covered with a sequined cape. That's usually kind of a turn-off for women, LOL.

It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that the Phantom would spend his days working out. He's obviously concerned about his looks. He can't control what his face looks like, but he can control what his abs look like. It's not uncommon for people to focus on things that they can control once they realize that there is nothing they can do about the things they can't.

For a guy who calls himself 'shy', Ramin sure does have a lot of topless pictures. There are three more that I know of that I didn't post.

And Ramin's workout consists of going to the gym 6 days a week. The Phantom's got enough free time to do the same thing. :) It's not like he has a job, besides haunting the opera house and kidnapping/seducing young women. It could count as part of his job. It's hard to climb all over an opera house and be sexually appealing without working out.

CATS, that's actually an extremely good point. I've never thought about it that way. Because the Phantom is obviously an obsessive perfectionist in pretty much every way... that makes sense.

Just finished watching. It DOES sound like Menken meets Schonberg.

I like Ramin, don't get me wrong, but I'm super annoyed by how they cast so young for this just to get the "sexy" factor. Ramin's young even for Erik in the original story, much less to play him when he's even older than that.

Corpses have muscles, too!
And he's described as being strong.
And when has ALW ever cared about what Leroux!Erik was like?

I posted on another board that they seem to be trying to make him look older in the press releases by giving him older outfits and hairstyles. It's like they're trying to make up for casting a guy who's too young for the part. But even in Phantom 1, in an evening suit and buried under piles of makeup, his voice gives him away. I like to think that they cast Ramin because he's got a superb singer, but who knows if that even had anything to do with it. We know Gerard Butler wasn't cast because of his fabulous singing.

She can't. There's a contractual stipulation requiring everyone in the show to be young and toned.

Since no one has answered...I'll attempt to ask again..

Has anyone pre-ordered the cast album?

If so, what was the preview track? (Was it the Waltz? It would be pretty silly if it was).

I think it sounds fantastic.

I love all the comments about that it's too lushly orchestrated, and sounds like a movie. Well, that's because everything that's been on Broadway in the last 10 years has been rock and roll and for the most part (not everything, so calm down...lol) synthesized and awful. It's nice to hear big, lush, Broadway orchestrations again, the way Broadway SHOULD sound. Most people today aren't used to hearing real strings, horns, etc. in a live orchestration. At best, because of budget cuts and stylistic choices, the best you get is one or two, or a synthesizer.

I'm one of the rare "I hope this does well" people. Will it ever replace the original? No - but I hope it's at least a success, and done correctly. So far, it "sounds" good, musically.

PS: For anyone who's been able to download the sample tracks, if you listen to the play-off with the orchestra, there is a slight musical tribute to one of the Phantom's original songs, which is VERY clever, and nice to hear. See if you notice it.

When you say "Sample tracks" with a plural, what are these?

Waltz
Till I hear you sing

Is there anything else?
