I saw it too-- I'm a huge fan of Coen's work, although I did not see Almost an Evening.
I completely agree with the OP--amatuerish, jokey...
in a word, sucked.

Posted: 4/20/09 at 12:01amI thought it was hilarious and (dare we say) even more fun than Almost an Evening. You have to understand Mr Coen's and Mr Pepe's "style" in order to fully appreciate their wicked (and brilliant) humor. It was like a reunion to see practically the whole cast of "Almost an Evening" back in "Offices." Their last show was sold out & extended to a bigger theater, and I can totally see this happening again. Three very funny skits make up this show. I work in an office and wow, these people were way "over the top" in their antics. What a crazy bunch of characters and what a dysfunctional office!! Don't want to give away any spoilers, but let's just say there was a lot of laughter coming from the audience. Definitely recommended.

I liked it a lot. But I adore Coen, even the Brothers' "lesser" work. Very very funny, if a bit slight.
It is essentially three "skits," but I think anyone calling it "amateurish" isn't really seeing the big picture.
That said, I thought my TDF ticket was money well worth it -- don't know how I'd feel if I paid "big money."

Basically, the only reason this set of plays was produced was because of Coen's name. It SUCKS.

Um, are you implying that without big name playwrights, only "quality" plays get produced? Because that's just retarded.
It's not for everyone, but a lot of people are going to enjoy this.

Posted: 4/20/09 at 12:42pmI am not a shill for Atlantic Theater, but I have to say that my membership with them was really one of the best investments I made this year. Unless Offices actually does suck, that $50 was well worth being able to see all of their shows for $25 in great seats, including Speed-the-Plow. Way more bang for my buck than Second Stage, MTC or Roundabout...just something to consider!

Yeah, this was pretty awful. Totally unfunny.
I did not see Almost an Evening, but I find Ethan Coen's film work hilarious. This was like 75 minutes and I couldn't wait for it to end.

I saw it tonight and wasn't too big of a fan. I'm glad I saw it, just didn't see the point. I guess it's not my kind of humor. O well. I liked the set though. Very functional. And the acting was generally good.
