i just saw the East West Players production in Los Angeles, in which they have Svetlana singing "Heaven Help My Heart" which makes no sense to me at all (except that the actress, Carey Rebecca Brown, sang the HELL out of it - i can understand why they'd want more of her!) If i remember correctly, in the Actors' Fund version last year (with Drew Sarich and Robert Cuccioli) "Heaven Help My Heart" was partly a duet, with Florence starting it, and Anatoly singing part of it, which i thought was lovely.
While we're on the subject of Svetlana stealing Florence's songs, I wasn't at all happy with Svetlana singing "Someone Else's Story" in the Signature Theatre (Arlington) production. The third verse ("I could be in someone else's story...") fits in very well with Florence's situation, as she mulls leaving Freddy for Anatoly. When Svetlana sings it, they're just meaningless words.
Giving "Someone Else's Story" to Svetlana is becoming the tradition now. She got it in the Idina concert and the wonderfully horrible recent instruments-in-hand tour in the UK.

From what I remember, Svetlana sings it after learning of her husband's affair and "someone else's story" becomes a reference to being Florence and being back with the husband who once loved her as the Soviets bring her back to stage a reunion with Anatoly. I remember finding it particularly poignant.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
I saw the signature production. It's mostly following the us ending which is Anatoly lost the game to Freddy and went back to USSR. Florence thought her father was rescued and it turned out a lie. I cannot find the program. I recalled they cut "chess" theme. Jill Pace is a good Florence Vocally. Jeremy Kushner is good as Freddy. Not a fan of Euan Morton's Anatoly.
Was listening to the Sydney production last night and the lyric changes for Some one else's story are amazing , I think that production solved some of the issues. Set in a hotel in Bangkok.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.
