Profile: I am a producer of world class media (stage, film, TV, audio recording), and in addition I develop and produce original, indigenous talent in all areas of media production, in concert with production possibilities in major U.S. cities. In my spare time, I screw around on the Internet.
I used to post here as gvendo2005, but in turning over a new leaf with regard to my Internet persona, I felt a new account was needed. And... here I am!

I'd kind of like Seth MacFarlane to do Nathan; his "Sue Me" wasn't terrible.

To the above point, where is the poster who always cites June smoking that damn cigarette in the Mendes revival as if it was some earth-shattering moment of brilliance? Should be along any minute now...

Playbill Ceases Operations for Touring Productions

Thanks to the pioneering print service of PLAYBILLder, I'd be surprised if those with deep enough pockets who really wanted to continue Playbill as their publication wouldn't just throw something together and pay a (likely) smaller licensing fee for the name.

Novels That Could Make Great Musicals
 Sep 10 2024, 07:03:18 PM

I don't know if it would be a musical, maybe more of a play with music, but I'd love to see extracts from The Maeve Chronicles by Elizabeth Cunningham paired with her songs from the tie-in album MaevenSongs as a theatrical evening. (And the whole thing as a limited series on one of the streamers. Sort of "Mists of Avalon goes to Jerusalem," but I dig it.)

(I'm torn on how to use it, but she once wrote a poem called "A Witch's Love Song to Christ" that I think

REBECCA: THE MUSICAL will have English language production in London

I don't believe it was ever announced, DiscoCrows. I hit the Wayback Machine with a stick to see if a full creative team ever hit the website, and no GM office is mentioned.
REBECCA: THE MUSICAL will have English language production in London

DBAK said: "I love the music, but from what I heard of the translation into English, it's like they ran the German lyrics through Google translation and called it a day. The lyrics sounded abysmal from the two songs they released to YouTube."

That's fairly common to Michael Kunze's English lyrics, unfortunately. (In fact, anyone who heard the earlier demos for Rebecca would actually not be terribly mistaken in saying that what they heard in the We

Finale ceases support, acquired by Dorico: a quiet theatre industry shake-up
 Aug 26 2024, 12:23:11 PM

A Facebook group devoted to musical theater orchestration is freaking out, loudly, because every American licensing house uses Finale. One knowledgeable soul predicts the current plan will create a global archival catastrophe, both within the business and for libraries that take on the challenge of preserving computer files from this era.

As for transferring to Dorico, the process is far from foolproof. On a technical level, hundreds of thousands of computer files will either becom

If they'd just merge with the damn Broadway Flea, make like Captain Planet and let their powers combine, it would be a much better event aimed at both the theater kid and the longtime aficionado demographics. I've been identifying problems with their operation since Day 1 (including one year where I co-presented a panel), and they would do a lot better by moving over and letting a pro at it.
Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season!

Of the three, I think Mr. Kringelein and the stuffed lamb are the most likely uses; the "faux rape" scene reads very uncomfortably to modern audiences regardless of the reason Laurents actually cut it, and the stuffed lamb (or even some kind of Bunraku puppet kinda thing) is just easier to maintain than everything that goes into maintaining an actual lamb.

Phantom Revival - What Happened?
 Jun 4 2024, 11:41:23 AM

Coming back immediately? No.

Coming back to the Majestic? No.

Coming back period? Yes, and sooner than later.

This has been planned since before the pandemic. I posted a great deal about what the plan -- as I understood it -- was at the time, and I'm pretty clear on that still being the case.

Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season?

Believe me or don't, some reports from the front [by which I mean "a friend on the show who I didn't know was on the show until ten minutes ago"]:

- I'd known about this for a while already, including Audra's and George C. Wolfe's involvement (it was on Rudin's pre-cancellation shortlist), but when I poked into it recently after gossip started to surface, I was told Wolfe was retired and not accepting new projects (and, from another source, that he

BROOKE SHIELDS ELECTED ACTORS’ EQUITY PRESIDENT

I'm less surprised. The tide has been turning in many union leaderships toward what some would consider a popularity contest, and the good news is that, so far, the results have been surprisingly fruitful. I hope she takes it as seriously as Fran Drescher seems to have in the same position at SAG-AFTRA.

One of her campaign promises was lobbying for more government funding for the arts. If she doesn't back down from that, and specifically makes a more serious push for the STAGE

He's the majority shareholder of MTI now, so when you deal with any kind of first-class rights to an MTI show, you deal with him. (That's my guess, anyway.)
