I'm looking forward to watching this show, and I hope it lives up to the hype. Everything I've seen has been very promising, and Underwood's Idol performance of "Hello Young Lovers" was years ago (I don't really remember it well, but maybe that's a good thing) and she seems to have learned to adapt her voice to singing musical theatre. She sounds great in all the clips I've heard from this production, and I hope she's able to act the role well, too.
I have been seeing a lot of misinformation about this production even in the press (I think it was Entertainment Weekly that mentioned a puppet show, for instance), so I wrote a little article for my blog, mostly aimed at fans of the film who may be unfamiliar with the play, but also about my expectations and hopes for the production. Girl has got some gorgeous pipes on her!

The soundtrack previews were really good and hopefully it puts to rest on debating Carrie's talents, she is pretty good in the vocal department. The sets look really nice and the big soundstage helps.
There was one tv spot that said "For the first time in over 50 years", when was the last live musical tv special??

Really? That's my favorite number from the film. I know Julie's not really yodeling, but that's what's so great about it, to me. She hits every one of those notes so strongly and securely. Her voice is sheer perfection on it. Well, actually, it is on every number; but that's my favorite one.
I'm very much looking forward to this production, but I don't think it's going to be a positive for anyone involved. No matter how great they all might be, most people will find it pales by comparison to what they know so well, the film. It'll no doubt be a ratings winner, so that's the most important thing. Perhaps it'll open the door for musicals that don't already have a perfect version out there. I'd love to see MY FAIR LADY or MAME, for example.

PBS and Live At Lincoln Center need to get on the phone stat and call NBC out on their false advertising.
Was "Light In The Piazza" the last one or has their been another since then?
And didn't Patti do "Sweeney Todd" live?
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Late to the party here, so I apologize if this has already been discussed. I know the orchestra is pre recorded. Will the singing be live or also recorded?
I'm a SoM purist and was not excited when I heard this was being done, but I've changed my tune after hearing the soundtrack. Does Carrie hit the same last note as Julie in Do Re Mi, or was the key changed?

I knew that 90s Broadway revival was DOA.

I still wish they would have used "I Have Confidence" or even just included it as a bonus track on the CD.

This article is the closest to how I feel about it. I have always been indifferent to Underwood - not a fan, not a hater. SOM probably won't change that. The smart thing was surrounding her with the cast that they did. I think NBC will get their Christmas wish.

CBS broadcast a live performance of Wonderful Town with most of the original Broadway cast as a color special in 1958. A studio recording of that cast, the first of Wonderful Town in stereo, is still available and the black-and-white kinescope of the broadcast survives.
