Posted: 12/2/13 at 7:40pm^It should. It's usually out before 9 here, but that's midnight on the east coast. If it had a bonus track of "I Have Confidence" I'd probably buy it, but I'm pretty happy with the last London cast recording that used "I Have Confidence," "Something Good" and both versions of "My Favorite Things." This one, I'm only morbidly interested in hearing because of the cast.

The NBC special last week did say he was a senior at Carnegie Mellon so maybe he started a few years late? but he didn't seem that old to me.
I kind of liked Grace as Marta - yes she is the quiet one, but actually I have never seen a production of SOM where Marta was not the quiet one. I thought she had a very pretty voice during the early auditions. I am still a little nervous about Fredrich but I think all the others were really talented.

Even though the London revival cast used a shortened version of I Have Confidence, they still used it! I think it should be part of the score.
Anyway, nothing wrong with ordering the DVD already! I can't wait to purchase it! As for the CD, I hope it's on Spotify by 12 or at least sometime tomorrow!

Yea, he didn't seem old to me either, but what do I know?

I think maybe they strategically cast a shy girl because in the play, Maria says to the Captain, "Marta -- I don't know about yet -- but someone has to find out about her." This was said about Louisa in the film, by the way. As for Friedrich, again maybe it was strategic because Maria says to the Captain in the play, "Friedrich's afraid to be himself -- he's shy -- he's aloof, Friedrich needs you -- he needs your confidence," and the actor they cast seems to lack confidence in that Do Re Mi preview, but we'll see.

Her and Audra singing My Favorite Things is beautiful. The orchestra sounds glorious. Laura Benanti sounds sexy beyond belief. Loving it thus far.

Posted: 12/2/13 at 11:55pmI'll reserve judgement for the live broadcast. I can't afford to buy the album right now anyway, but going of the clips I think she sounds great in the studio. Hopefully she sounds that good live too. Although, I'm pretty sure they can play tricks with live vocals too so who knows.

Posted: 12/3/13 at 8:49amListening to the preview clips on Amazon, and it does sound pretty great, especially Audra's "Climb Ev'ry Mountain." I am surprised to see that there is only one rendition of "Edelweiss" on the album, though: the version where the whole family sings it at the concert. Isn't there an earlier version in the stage play (just as there was in the movie) where the Captain sings it with his children? It's my favorite song from the show.

Just listened to the soundtrack. It was really good! It is basically a mix of the original stage orchestrations, the film orchestrations, and new orchestrations. Carrie Underwood sounds really great, but she especially shines during The Lonely Goatherd.
StageStruckLad, in the stage version, Edelweiss is sung only once, and that's during the Salzburg Festival concert.
