I should say that instances like these...where energy is building and everyone is singing...are, to me, by far, the most amazing moments in theater.

Well, at least on the demo, each character in the number has their own different verse about what they'd do if they won the lottery (relatively speaking; two verses are related but not specifically "if I won the lottery") and then there is this great counterpoint where all of the verses are sung together.
But to specifically answer your question, yes there is rapping and singing going on at the same time.

"Do You Know What It's Like?" from Zanna Don't...one of my favorites in this category.
Two other examples from that show: the Finale (sometime, someday, could we fall in love/how 'bout tonight), and "Don't You Wish We Could Be in Love".

RENT has some quality moments (specifically "Another Day"), and the new quartet of "If Only" from The Little Mermaid sounds wonderful from what they show on the clip. I didn't even think about "For Good," Sally! A very good example.
We sang a song in choir called "Freedom Triligy." It mixed two different African chants/songs with "Amazing Grace." That was a blast.

I've had the Act I finale from "See What I Wanna See" stuck in my head for days...
Any Sondheim counterpoint is quality counterpoint, although it's kind of a cliche (c.f. Forbidden Broadway, "Into the Words.")

This Disney cartoon, with Clara Cluck and Donald Duck, Pluto and a frog singing, sort of, "Bella Figlia Dell'Amore" from "Rigoletto."

Posted: 2/24/08 at 6:44pmThat reminded me a lot of "The Whale Who Wanted To Sing at the Met" from the 1946 Disney film "Make Mine Music." He had three different "uvuli" which could allow him to sing different ranges at one time (tenor, baritone, and bass). This could allow him to sing three parts of the sextet from "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Donizetti. Another great example of counterpoint, in my opinion!

I absolutely love Kiss Me Quartet. I can listen to it over and over again without getting bored! I also love Quartet: You'll Go Away With Me from See What I Wanna See. I would also have to agree with If Only quartet. I am a sucker for quartets, what can I say?

I have to agree with "Lida Rose/Will I Ever Tell You?" from THE MUSIC MAN, love it!
Then there's "96'000" which does have that great moment when all the different people sing their verses, it starts with Karen Olivo's part against Lin-Manuel's rapping, and then everyone joins in, it's so good.
There's also the "Tonight Quintet" from WEST SIDE STORY.

How about "Trio" from PASSION, that might possible be my favorite along with all the moments in CAROLINE, OR CHANGE (The "Moon Trio," the Act I finale, and the sequence right after "I Hate the Bus" with Emmie, Rose, and Stuart singing).

Tower of Babble from Godspell is one of my faves!!!!so clever - anyone who reckons Schwartz can't write a note has to listen to that (particularly the London cast recording, its clean and doesn't have the more modern orchestrations that are a bit bizarre)
i love christmas bells if it's done right
can i also add in Sounds of Selling from She Loves Me
therapy from Tick Tick Boom - there's some other great harmony stuff there (stephen oremus is a genius)but its not all necessarily counterpoint
