Sometimes I forget his thread is even about whether or not Jennifer Hudson could be Elphaba.

The following link is a great site that speculates on casting the Wicked Movie.

That list is a joke. Most of the suggestions for Elphaba and Galinda are in their 30's and 40's. It made me realize how there are very few young actresses in Hollywood who can sing and have a huge fan following.

And while Lea Michelle seems capable of playing Elphaba, I personally don't want to see her in that role. She just bugs me.

I did like the idea of Walken as the Wizard.

My Wizard pick is Victor Garber. He can play sweet and sinister. Updated On: 8/1/12 at 10:10 AM

Well I guess you have to ask yourself which is better? Actresses in their 30s or 40s playing college students in the first half of the movie and truer to their actual ages for the second half (because as many have pointed out there is supposed to have been a good amount of time between Act I and Act II), or early 20s playing their own age for the first half and trying to play 30s or 40s for the second half.

As has been stated, in the novel (which people keep clamoring that they hope the movie reflects a bit more) Elphaba is 37 when Dorothy arrives in Oz and kills her. While some seem to only focus on not wanting a 40 year old actress playing 20 I don't know if I want to see a 20 year old actress playing 37.

One other thing to consider as far as age. Elphaba is Nessa's older sister. She is not starting college out of "high school." Her father wouldn't have sent her at all if it weren't to look out for Nessa (who we can assume is just out of "high school" and starting college now).

That means Glinda and Nessa are the same age (roughly), and Elphaba is older than both of them by at least a year if not more. Not sure how quickly their parents would have had a second child after giving birth to a "green" one. Although Nessa was a "surprise" baby, to be sure, and the mother was a promiscuous woman.

That's all part of the musical as written and has nothing to do with the novel.

Of course that can all be adapted and modified for a film. If Sandy can suddenly be a transfer student from Australia in "Grease," and Sally Bowles and Cliff can switch nationalities in "Cabaret," anything is possible. They can tailor backstories to fit the actors. It happens all the time.

Again, I would prefer a (slightly) more mature Elphaba in a movie, just so it doesn't turn into "High School Musical: The Green Edition." Mid-20s at the youngest for casting.

Who knows with age-appropriate casting nowadays? I watch a teen show where one of the characters is played by a 33 year old actress, who also played a high schooler from 1993-1995.

Amanda Seyfried as Glinda... she has chops, she still looks young, I think she would be great.

I don't know about you all, but I would love to see Wicked done with no singing or dancing on screen. I think it could be a great movie without the music... but that's just me.
