Les Mis is opening opposite "The Hobbit" .....it's going to be brutal this holiday season. I liked the trailer for Les Mis but watcth the link below if you wanna talk Oscar buzz or worldwide hit.

Les Mis is going to have doing something pretty damn special to do battle with these movies. It's not even in 3D....
This will be the MOVIE of the year.

If Anna Kendrick were to ever play any role in a WICKED film, she'd play Nessarose, not Elphaba.

I definitely agree. She just seems more like Nessarose.

I think they're going for The Dark Knight/Mamma Mia strategy.

And yet, you didn't know who she was and really haven't seen her in much including her Oscar-nominated film. In that case, I think Samantha Barks, whom I've never seen in anything, seems more like a Madame Morrible. Totally.

Eh...I'd rather see a teenaged movie star play Nessarose. I truly want the movie to cast true to the character ages. I don't want it to be Broadway-style casting.

Are you trying to start with me or something? Yeah I didn't know who Anna was...but now I do. So what? I've seen clips of her acting/singing, and she seems talented enough. And I think she's more appropriate for Nessarose. Which makes more sense than Samantha as Madame Morrible, who is not even old enough to play the part.

I just think if this film ends up happening in the next couple of years, Lea Michele is going to move to the front of the line with the whole Idina comparison, made even worse from her spot on Glee.

Anna Kendrick is 5'4 and that's without heels, and even if she was 5'1 it wouldn't be a problem, look how easily they handled Meryl's lack of height when she played 6ft Julia Childs

Nessarose- I see Alison Brie, Leighton Meester, or (if she can sing) Eden Sher

Now Samantha Barks would make a good Nessarose, but she's too wooden for Elphaba (Truth be told I fear Samantha's fate will be very similar to that of that girl who played Johanna in The Sweeney Todd movie), whoever plays Elphaba needs to be played by one who can carry the whole movie with a certain flip of the hat charisma that hooks you and a strong voice that could rouse a crowd, Elphaba's more than the lovelorn pretty plain Jane yearning for a man's attention, she's the Wicked Witch of the West. (I'm Not That Girl isn't the show-stopper everyone remembers it's Defying Gravity)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the same thing said about Lea for Les Mis, and as I recall, the only place I ever recall her being seriously considered was here. And the same with the aborted Funny Girl revival, where they ended up casting somebody who was the complete opposite of Lea Michele.

And yes, height is pretty much a non-factor for film. Look at how many people still don't realize that Tom Cruise is practically a midget.

AEA AGMA SM, fair point, and duly noted. I'm certainly not rooting for her in any way (I'm apathetic about her in general), but I've heard her name thrown in so many times, it just seemed inevitable. But you're right, her name get's thrown around for quite a bit, regardless.

After seeing Samantha's performance as Nancy in Oliver!, there is absolutely no way she's "wooden". She displayed a lot of raw emotions when she sang As Long As He Needs Me, and has a bit of deeper voice that is needed for Elphaba, which Anna doesn't have.

I don't understand what your deal is. I am allowed to express my opinion about Anna's voice, and since I've already heard her sing, I don't think it's a right fit for Elphaba.

What is wrong with Lea Michelle as Elphaba? She played Idina's daughter on Glee and sang "Defying Gravity" on the First Season.

You didn't know who she was, but you said her career had already peaked. Then you recognized her face and learned about her and said she is an up and coming star (who has already peaked?). Then you watched some clips and decided which role would be appropriate for her. Turn off TMZ and watch Up in the Air.

I saw a photo of Samantha Barks, so I know for sure she could only play Madame Morrible. She could be a huge star if her career wasn't already over. I don't have to see her do anything to know that because I watch E!

Lea Michele is just not famous enough for Elphaba nor is she as "hot" as they are going to cast. That role is going to go to like a Scarlett Johansson or a new-comer they can build a new audience around.

I agree is fun to talk about who would be "perfect" for these roles but let's be realistic here. This could be a career-defining role and the competition is stiff. When you talk about a Lea Michelle vs. a Reese Witherspoon, you have to look at box-office. You barely need to be able to sing for movies.

Ohhh I just thought of a good one. Rosario Dawson. (not nearly famous enough).

Wait...you mean he committed to a WHOLE SONG?!?! No way. But how? Entertainment Tonight only features clips! Why would anyone listen to an entire song when you can cast someone based on the number of (potential) followers they have on Twitter?

Mister Matt, I guess I have to copy/paste what I already explained to you, since you probably missed it: her success in Up in the Air is really the highest point in her career, and she hasn't done anything outstanding since then. But she still has upcoming movies that might do well, so that's why she's "up and coming".

And yes! I didn't know who Anna was before, but now I do! CAN WE MOVE ON ALREADY? I don't see why you're making such a big deal over this. And now you're making fun of me. Gee, I already feel so welcomed here.

Come on now, Matt, BroadwayStar4 heard her sing one song and now KNOWS that she doesn't have notes for Elphaba.

Oh, so now you want to say something other than "ok"? I've heard her sing just as much as all of you. Some of you suggested that she should play Elphaba, so why can't I suggest she should go for Nessarose? I'm not saying that Anna can't hit those notes, I'm just saying that her voice doesn't have the certain roughness that would be right for Elphaba.
