I know that the producers of Tail of Two Cties said prior to the court ruling that they are standing behind Barbour regardless of what the outcome of the trial was going to be.
Now that it has been determend that the show is going to go to Broadway will they still keep Barbour in the show. Considering the fact that he is in jail.
And, on a seperate note it has been mentioned a few times that the AEA website had principal audition notices so that makes me wonder about the fate of the rest of the leads and wonder if they are going to recast the entier thing prior to Broadway. Some of the original talent in this show is good.
That being said, are they going to keep barbour in the show or are they going to re cast him in fear of having to deal with the outcome of being the first Broadway show he is in prior to his limited run of his one man show. James Barbour: Live at Rikers.

Funny Lizzie, but I didn't know, you model? Who would have guessed? Of course, just knowing you won't be able to see it in San Francisco will make the rest of my year very happy indeed.
I'm just waiting for those, "prison tapes"! The jail inmates really treat child molesters extra special. Maybe he will become famous in a whole new medium?
Too bad he has to serve the entire 90 days. Cole Porter got William Eythe out of jail in a matter of hours on the opening day of Porter's OUT OF THIS WORLD in which Eythe had a major role.
He's not playing Rooster, he will be playing the Daddy in ANNIE instead.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
The article stating that the producers would stay with him came out after the trial. But then the listing at actorsequity.org sings another song. I find that listing worrying but not so much for Barbour but for other roles that I'm hoping are NOT recast.

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
They often make actors re-audition just as a formality after doing a show out of town or off-broadway before taking it to Broadway. I don't imagine them walking away from Barbour, especially considering the reviews he got for his performance, but Derek Keeling could be another story.

This was something I suspected but wasn't sure about and I was waiting for someone to say it. Thanks.
And I liked Derek in the show. But what do I know? lol

"Does no one here think that having a convicted child molester (regardless of who came on to whom) may hurt sales just a teensy bit?"
Honestly, it could go either way. I think the producers are hoping that Joe Nobody from Kansas won't have any idea what happened. I don't know anyone not involved in the theatre community who knows. That could totally change between now and when the show opens but thus far not much attention has been given to it outside of NYC/Broadway. We know because we follow the news but will the average tourist know? Maybe/maybe not.
But...if the mainstream touristy person DOES find out will it keep them away? Maybe/maybe not. There are many camps on this issue. There are the people who will stay away and then there are the people who will come to see "that guy who was in jail". Which group is larger? I have no idea.

Taz, I definitely see your point, but don't you think the majority of audiences won't know? I mean, James Barbour isn't a huge star, so the news went fairly untravelled. It's not like a movie star scandal, where the news is everywhere.
This show seems to be marketing itself in the vein of LES MIZ, and that caters generally to out-of-town audiences- tourists who can recognize the title and decide that they want to go with something familiar.
I mean, it affects us, but anyone who doesn't really pay attention to the goings-on of Broadway won't really know enough to turn away from the show.
The itty bitty sex offender thing did make headlines beyond our little Broadway-obsessed circles...it made the mainstream news when he was convicted.
That doesn't mean I expect more than a fraction of the average theatergoer to remember the offense, but you can bet that some groups will get wind of his return to Broadway and stir up some bad publicity.
The producers may think it's noble to stand by their leading man, but I'd rethink that choice if I were in their shoes.
"If there is going to be a restoration fee, there should also be a Renaissance fee, a Middle Ages fee and a Dark Ages fee. Someone must have men in the back room making up names, euphemisms for profit."

I personally think James Barbour is a phenomenal leading man and if this conviction stops him from performing again on Broadway it would be a real shame. I do, however, see the NY Post continuing its vendetta against him so I fear that the producers may buckle to pressure if the NY Post continues their hysterical tirade.
"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

Yes, but it wasn't huge news that people paid attention to. Most of them don't know who Barbour is in the first place to even give his conviction much attention.
Things could totally change now that the show is finally coming to Broadway.

wait til some local TV news reporter gets a hold of this during sweeps month ... remember the protests over miss saigon? a tea party by comparison if this thing goes nuclear. and unlike miss saigon, the public's only ever going to see one side to this story.
