I havent seen the show yet but he just sounds so damn good on the cast album its going to be difficult hearing a different voice. He just inhabits the character so well from what I can hear and is just perfect. With Oklahoma coming in, I think its unlikely he would be in the original cast of Hadestown but hopefully someday hell be a replacement "

I thought that would happen with Phillipa Soo on Great Comet but it closed before Denee Benton ever left. Hopefully Hadestown doesn’t meet the same fate.

I'm seeing the show in April soon after opening and I LOVE Amber Gray so I'm super excited! I'll bring my Comet playbill for her to sign!

I'm actually a little surprised that they aren't going to stunt cast someone for Orpheus. I feel like you could grab any young pop star and put him in that part just to sell tickets. Same for Eurydice although I do really love Eva. I've never been much of a Reeve Carney fan, but maybe I'll like him here.

It'll be interesting, because Orpheus as a character has changed the most over the different productions. He's a different character than when Damon played him, with different motivations and a different arc. I think that would be particularly challenging as an actor.

But my goodness I don't think I've ever heard a voice more suited to the role of Orpheus. I'm considering seeing Oklahoma! - and I hate Oklahoma! - just to hear it again

Go! He is a certified crooner in Oklahoma. His voice made me melt.

Reading up on the casting rumors here - though I'm really happy Paige and some of the other leads from the recent production are returning, I was really hoping for Chris Sullivan as Hermes. He has such a unique, rough, rock n' roll quality to his voice that is so hypnotic, it would have been great to see him make a return to both the character and to Broadway. This is Us is cool and all, but this would be have been incredible (even though I'm sure NBC is paying his bills for the forseeable future and takes priority over musical theater.)

Andres De Shields was amazing in London, he was actually my favourite performer apart from Paige.

Oh I'm sure he's gonna be great, I'm just gonna miss Chris' voice. Got really used to it and wanted to hear it live since I missed the off broadway run.

When can we expect an official announcement regarding casting? Have all the contracts even been signed?

Andres De Shields truly is fantastic in this. He has his very own take on the role and he has the audience eating out of his hand. A stand-out performance for sure.

The entire principle cast will be returning for the Broadway run! Sorry to those who don't like Reeve Carney.

Yeah, it stated in the EPA that the entire London cast had been offered contracts for Broadway, so it's no surprise they all accepted! It seemed like the Fates and Workers were also from the London cast, but if they had Brits in those roles they are probably recasting them with Americans due to Equity issues, the cost of travel and housing, etc.

Jessie Shelton who was a fate offbroadway recently just left the waitress tour after only about five months I wouldn’t be surprised if she was playing one of the fates. I hope Lulu Fall from Great Comet is a fate. She also did it offbroadway, so I feel like she could be a possibility.

Just saw her a few weeks ago in Waitress, she was AWESOME! I had a bit of a moment when I was reading the Playbill and realized she was one of the off-Broadway Fates.

I'll be seeing the show in June, I would love to see her again!

Wasn't Shaina Taub one of the off-Bway Fates?  There are only three, so...?  Can someone clarify how many actresses played these roles during the NYTW production?

The original off-broadway fates were Shaina Taub, Lulu Fall, and Jessie Shelton. The three fates in the most recent reading in New York were Yvette Gonzales-Nacer, Crystal Lucas-Perry, and Rocky Vega. Yvette Gonzales-Nacer is in the Broadway prouduction. I’m just not sure if she will officially be a playing a fate or not.

Ah, okay, thanks, that's interesting.  I didn't even realize they'd had another NYC reading.

Kinda bummed Lulu Fall isn’t playing one of the fates. I’m curious as to who the understudies will be for the principles. Does anyone have any guesses?

I suspect John Krause will be covering Reeve Carney, with T. Oliver Reid covering Patrick Page and Andre DeShields. I believe Jessie Shelton was a fate in a previous versions, so I assume she’d cover the fates and and maybe Eva Noblezada?  I’m not sure who would cover Amber Grey...her role is so important in the show.
