Flying Over Sunset - Previews Thread

Oh, I bet those are going to be popular! Did you get any kind of special perspective on the show or new insights? I’ve heard something about a bloody piece of meat being brought in as a prop. I’m not sure what it symbolizes, but I’m looking forward to Tony Yazbeck’s scene with it!

Did anyone else think Robert Sella’s drum solo during Tony/Carmen nude scene was a little self indulgent? I thought the first minute of it was very well executed, but round the six minute mark, it felt sloppy.

Also, a hairy man playing Sophia Loren? Would not have expected it to work. Brave choice. Bravo to the creative team for taking that risk!

Very exciting and I think it’s a great fit.

RIP Nick Cordero

Another devastating loss due to the pandemic. His age and health make it more real and scarier for younger people. This illness is brutal...my heart goes out to Amanda, Elvis, and the rest of their family and friends. After months of being so strong, I hope they are all able to find peace.

OUR Hamilton Reviews

I’m literally 10 minutes in and I needed to take a minute.

I don’t know if it’s the current state of the world, stress of the pandemic, utter optimism of Hamilton as a young person, or that others as others have said, this truly is a massive gift we’ve been and we’re lucky to get now instead of 1 year or 5 years or 10 years for now, but this made me shed a few tears during the opening number.

It made me feel lucky to be alive instead distressed for

Hamilton Movie Reviews

Playbill is gathering reviews as available. Many of the critics had already reviewed the show, so looking at the analysis of the filming and production is interesting.

I’m in the camp that thinks it looks stunning. I’ve seen 4 companies and various casts of the show, but I’m really interested in seeing the translation to film more then performances. I know those. I want to see angles and color and lighting.

Those Who Saw the 2004 Assassins...

Michael Cervaris’s performance in general, but the scene between “Another National Anthem” and “Something Just Broke” where we see the balladeer transform into Lee Harvey Oswald was incredibly powerful. The end with the Zapruder film playing on NPH’s shirt was something else, but the entire scene that starts with Boothe and Oswald alone was great.

Hadestown disdain?

I wouldn’t say many people on here hated it. It has many big fans in this board. The biggest issues on this board seem to be the length of the story stretched out across 2.5 hours, which is understandable. That’s a long time and it’s a topic many people could sum up very quickly. People also seemed mixed on Reeve Carney, but many also extremely favorable about Amber Gray, Andre DeShields, and Patrick Page. Lighting and staging seemed to get a lot of praise here.

#blacklivesmatter and Broadwayworld

I appreciate the second and third points Playbill is making the most.  Two years ago, the charter operator for my school sent the staff from my school and the staff from all buildings they charted to a PISAB Understanding Racism workshop. Difficult and eye opening.

Were any sites taking part in Black Tuesday? I had a full day and didn’t have time to check if any of the major ones were.

NYT Poll Shows One Hurdle to Reopening Broadway: Fear of Jerks
 May 26 2020, 07:42:56 PM

Not to sound flippant, but I think fear of jerks is one of the reasons some locations have been hesitant to reopen aspects of their economy. It’s what makes me have my groceries delivered versus picking them up myself and what has me going for a run at 6:30am instead of 2:30 in the afternoon.

I can be responsible and make good choices for myself. But you can’t guarantee that the person behind in line you at the bathroom really understands what 6’ is or is diligent abo

Significant Other - OBC Livestream - 5/14/20

The last half hour or so, from Laura’s bachelorette party on, makes feel human in a time when everything feels so strange and unreal. Barrie’s line about life being a long book and the present being a difficult chapter was what made me cry. So true.

Monday will be 10 weeks of living and teaching in quarantine and it’s getting hard. The played moved me deeply when I first saw it because it was relatable to me—I was very much the odd one out amongst my f
