Posted: 4/12/11 at 12:19amnewsday is always negative, unless the show is catered to a much older audience ie it gave million dollar quartet the best review last season, as well as she loves to compare shows, ie American idiot which is a piece of performance art rather than a musical to spring awakening, next to normal, rent, tommy... when in reality it is in a completely separate category due its artistic nature

Posted: 4/12/11 at 12:31amif its like last year where it was commercialization aka Memphis vs art aka American idiot and Fela then Catch Me If you Can is the front runner, because you cant sell book of mormon to people in the midwest even with its reviews, but if its like all years except last Mormon has it in the bag, but Catch has Orchestrations and Music since they appear to have gotten some of the best reviews unles they throw in kander and ebb or scottsboro boys

Tony Sheldon previously won the Olivier for Best Actor in a Musical, so there is precedence for his being nominated in that category.
Also, Book of Mormon has this in the bag. It is critically beloved (the best reviewed new musical in... a very long time) box-office smash. Try buying a ticket. It may very well grab all the major awards.
Also- American Idiot ISN'T commercialization? I enjoyed it but... come on.

Sheldon did NOT win the Olivier award, although people on here and ATC constantly think he did.

I thought this was an interesting thought from WLS:
"Interestingly, I found myself imagining what Wopat or Butz could have done with the lead role, back in the day. Frank Jr. is a very dominant protagonist and the role demands a challenging balance of adult charisma and adolescent naivete."
