Some of my all time favorite show logos are the original La Cage, Kiss of the Spider Woman, the original 42nd Street, original Nine, Bernadette Gypsy, Cats and Les Miz.

All the Cameron Mackintosh mega musicals from the 80s and 90s had great, iconic artwork.

The best logos are the simplest. Like Phantom, Cats, Wicked. Maybe explains why they were all huge hits?

Logos and posters do not determine whether a show is a hit or a flop.

There are many flop shows with fantastic logos and many hit shows with butt-ugly logos.

^They don't hurt either. A clever logo and marketing campaign can spark interest and eventual longevity for a show via easy product recognition.

Phantom demonstrated that perfectly with their original artwork eventually not even requiring the title for you to know what was being advertised.

The original A Little Night Music logo. Took me forever to realize there were naked people in the tree.

Thats hilarious - I've been looking at that artwork for years and I still wouldn't have seen them except for your post!

I have a huge collection of window cards, window card images and Playbill images if anyone has a request for a poster design they've always wanted to see.

I didn't notice the naked people in the Night Music logo at the store when I bought the CD, but it definitely caught my eye when I got it home and took off the plastic.

I wholeheartedly agree with After Eight regarding designs for DEAR WORLD, and Hilary Knight's sublime work for NO, NO NANETTE and IRENE. Do you like Knight's work on SUGAR BABIES?

The original Equus artwork is wonderful, simple and says so much about the play. The original art for The Elephant Man was similar, effective, but a not as good.

Egghumor,

Yes, Sugar Babies as well.

Another great window card was for Peg, starring the inimitable Peggy Lee.
