Oh I understand what he did was illegal (if it in fact happened). But if this girl is trying to put it all on him that's wrong TOO.
If said incident did occur, than both parties were consenting. Barbour is still in the wrong because by law it is illegal. This law is slightly ridiculous SOMETIMES in my opinion because if a person wants to have sex just before it is "legal" with someone who is even just passed the legal age then that is there choice. Yet they can turn around and sue for everything the "adult" has.
So yes, by law what Barbour did was illegal, but if she wanted to do it (which it sounds to me like she did) then as the adult she is now she should do the right thing by dropping charges. If for some reason her early loss of "innocence" did cause her some type of emotion distress then she should discuss this with a psychiatrist (and ask Barbour to pay for it). But I don't see how you can sue for something when it takes two to commit a crime.

Identification of alleged rape victims by media outlets
As a matter of courtesy, most newspapers and broadcast media in the United States do not disclose the name of an alleged rape victim (the complaining witness) during the trial, and if the alleged rapist is convicted, most will continue to not identify the victim. If the case is dropped or the alleged rapist is acquitted, most media will no longer shield the name of the complaining witness. This practice was probably related to laws in some states which made it a crime to publicly reveal the name of the complaining witness in a rape case. When such laws were challenged in court, they were routinely struck down as unconstitutional.
The article goes on to give some case studies where these laws were brought into play.

Whether or not this girl consented or whatever is irrelevant. She was 15. This is a very serious matter; I cannot believe anyone on this board (especially the women) would point this at the "victim." Even if the kid was lying, does that matter? I'm sure the judge and her lawyers made her aware of the severity of theses allegations. Everything will come out in the trial. If he did this, he knowingly broke the law. Whether or not that law is right or wrong is not the issue now. The issue is that he allegedly BROKE THE LAW.
It's not like the Michael Jackson case, this man is not ridiculously wealthy. Has anyone become famous after alleging rape from a d-lister like him?
His career is over. He won’t be able to act in many shows; a lot of them have children. I wonder what the union says

I was so happy to see Amy Fisher come around and speak out against Joey Buttafuco after her release from prison. If you remember, she fell in "love" with Joey, then plotted and tried to murder his wife Mary Jo. Sure, what she did was evil and wrong, but Amy was a victim here. Joey failed to understand that Amy was still a child and would act like such. Even if their sex was consensual, he crossed a line. If he had just stopped and been an adult, maybe things would be different. Instead, he ruined the lives of his wife, Amy and his family.

Ok, #1, stop acting like I'm sticking up for him because I'm a fan....I have never seen him in ANYTHING, and I've barely even heard of him.
and do you KNOW 15 year olds now a days? I've sure heard PLENTY of them say things that would make your hair curl. I believe most teenagers are sexually active by 15, so why not with a 30 year old. Not too suprising to me anymore. I think it's WRONG, but that's how it goes now. My friend is a elementry school teacher and the other day she had to punish some students because they were talking about going to "go ****" in their parents jacuzzi. They are in ELEMENTRY SCHOOL. (Not to say this is how this girl was at that age.)
There is really no use arguing with you guys, I have my opinions and you all have yours. But my point is, she sounds to me like she, too, is at fault.

I'm not sure what I believe anymore, to be honest. I guess working with sexual harassment cases has jaded me quite a bit - ten years ago, I'd have been all over the accused in a bad way!

Please it's not like this is anything new. Kids were married at 15 not too long ago. In this case we have a LAW. He broke it. She could have begged for it, and it still does not make it legal. When I was 15 I would have done anything to "do it," and I had my share of crushes and fantasies. I can't imagine the impact of them today had they come true.
You know what I always tell my friends when there is an "age" difference in dating? I know there are exceptions to this rule. But younger people need room to grow and mature. I always question the maturity of the elder person. Why would a mature 40 year old want anything to do with a 20 year old? As you get older you see the vast differences in maturity in younger and older people. The problem with kids (17 and under) is that they are not adults. Their parents have complete control and responsibility for them.

Although theres some debate going on over the matter, do you UNDERSTAND what Rath is saying? IT IS ILLEGAL. Done deal. We've yet to see him charged guilty in the crime so I won't pass judgement, but just because 15 year olds YOU have had contact with seem like whores, doesn't mean that they dodge the law, they are still minors and the law sees them as such. Whether they want it or not, doesn't make a difference in the crime.

Yah she consented but she was a minor, and he was not, so he was the respinsible adult. Plus, she was probably starstruck. None of this is her fault, he was the adult, she was a 15 year old. She has no responsibility for this.

Some of you keep mentioning that teenagers now are so much more outwardly mature and they talk about sex all the time. I agree that younger people speak much more openly about sex. How can they not considering the influences that are everywhere that seem to say sex is the most important thing and that it's what really matters?
But that doesn't mean that they are mature enough to handle a sexual relationship with a much older person or even someone their own age. I'm not talking morals here; I'm talking out and out not being ready to handle sex, which is a very intimate and involving thing. The way a person may dress or speak or what he or she speaks of does not indicate their level of maturity. It just indicates that they can talk a good game.

I'm actually surprised that this didn't come out a lot sooner as Barbour was rumored to be involved with a 13 yrear old over this past summer. Clearly this is a pattern and the man has a problem, but in no way are any of these victims at fault. The man is 40 and at the age of 33 to be involved with a 13 year old is just plain wrong. He could be her father. It bothers me that the papers and the victim are using the word seduced. I think the more appropriate term would be child abuse.
He needs help. And who is this mysterious woman with a wedding band that appeared with him in court?

Posted: 12/7/06 at 5:08pmNo matter what, if he did this he is wrong. But not knowing all the facts, who is to say this girl didn't pass herself off as an 18 year old? Lots of teens do it. (I know of a case where a 16 year old posed as an 18 year old online and got someone in trouble. That person ended up with a sign on his lawn indentifying him as a child molester) Mr. Barbour may have thought she was of age. Just speculating here. If she was in his dressing room alone, she could have told him anything. And as far as parents being responsible, I think we all know that not all parents are as responsible as they should be. And stage parents still do exist and this girls mother or father or both might have done anything to get their child into the theatre. But wrong is wrong. He may have known, which means he has a problem that he needs help with, or he may not and has gotten caught up in a bad situation. Just my thoughts.
