"I saw him in Beauty at the Shubert."

That's pretty creepy to be hearing this when you saw him in a Disney Musical.

Folks at Disney have sex.

Where do you think Nemo and Bambi came from?

"Beauty & The Beast" didn't play the Shubert.

Oh, you mean you saw him in Beauty, the Dainty June alternate in the Bernadette "Gypsy" at the Shubert.

Am I the only one who at the age of 15 would have killed to have sex with my Broadway crush? If I got in that position and they were like, "I can't, I could get arrested," I'd have been pretty disappointed.

I'm not saying an adult doesn't have a responsibility to protect himself and the minor by refusing to take part, but the girl went back to him three times. If she was uncomfortable she never had to see him again. It's not like he was a parent, relative or teacher whose advances she couldn't avoid. Do you guys remember being 15, or are you all thinking of your own kids, who are such darlings they would never think about sex?

I'm not forming any opinions of whether he did it or not, I just think people (and the law in general) are confusing the ability of a 15-year-old to consent in these circumstances with a totally different class of rape.

yeah, im a bit torn on this issue because while I know and agree that the adult *should* know better, I was a total hussy by that age. To see him multiple times and to wait so long to make the accusations, it just seems a little suspect and in a very grey shade.

Thank you Dover! The girl knew what she was doing. She went back to his friggin apartment. She was 15. There are 15-year-olds out there who are way more mature than certain adults, I'm sure, and who are also already pretty sexually experienced. It's not like he lured a little kid into his car with an ice cream cone. And although there's no question that it's kind of creepy for a 35-year-old to have sexual contact with a 15-year-old, the word "rape" should not be applied here, I'm sorry. Remember, it wasn't that long ago that girls younger than she were MARRIED to men that age. I'm not saying it's right, but it's not like he committed murder. And it certainly isn't "rape." It's just...inappropriate. And, unfortunately for James, illegal.

EDIT: Oh, and insert the word "allegedly" into everything I just said about what Barbour did.

15 year olds can definitely be very conniving, persuasive, and sneaky (try teaching high school and you will find out first hand). Obviously, since she willingly saw James Barbour several times again after the initial incident she must have some lustful feelings for him. However, once again, regardless of how much she might have pressured him, he still has to stand up to her as an adult and say no. I know that hormones can cloud ones thoughts, and it's not like 15 year old girls today don't dress and look like they are in their 20's. However, knowing the law and the severity of the punishment for breaking that particular law -- he has to have better judgment and push her away no matter how upset it makes her. Missing out on underage sex or running the risk of spending many years in jail and having your career ruined? I would choose the former.

Although, just having a 15 year girl old alone with him in his apartment already puts him in a bad light even if nothing actually happened as he says. As a teacher I always tried to make sure I wasn't left alone in my office, etc. with one of my female students just in case one of them ever tried to make allegations of that kind. When it comes down to an adult male predator vs. teenage female victim, it is widely known who the public will sympathize with. You have to be careful not to give them any ammo.

I can't even believe some of the comments here. She was 15 - I don't care if she'd slept with her entire high school. If the alleged events took place, under the LAW he committed criminal acts. Bottom line. There is an age of consent for a reason.

I know it's hard to believe a Broadway performer can actually have faults.

papa-- I am sickened by your comments. You don't understand that there are a lot of children who are sexually active who seduce fine upstanding men who merely want to go to their apartments and read a book while not having sex. May you rot in hell and other unpleasant things.

Dover, are you f--king kidding me with this? I had a huuuuuuge crush on my English teacher when I was a sophomore in high school. I thought I would have given anything just to have him to myself and I even made myself available and vulnerable to a certain extent to him. Luckily, he never acted on it. But the fact that I wanted him doesn't mean that, even though I was 17, I had the wherewithal to make that decision as an adult. Your argument is absurd. These laws are made to protect children who aren't knowledgeable enough to make these choices for themselves.

I understand some of your point of views. When I was 15/16 I had relations with men over and some times way over 18. We both made choices. However, in the eyes of the law, it was illegal. No matter how ok with it I was, it could still land that guy in jail. Looking back now, it's really skeevy. I think about my friends having relations with 15/16 year olds and it makes me want to puek. Let alone think what was wrong with that guy to have to "resort" to someone so young instead of someone "legal".

It must be hard to be in the spotlight and have girls/boys throw themselves at you all the time. But, that doesn't make it ok for you to do things you are not supposed too. Plus, in this day and age, no matter who you kiss, have sex with, etc., you have to be on guard for alleged rape, pregnancy, etc, no matter what age. Why set yourself up for it when you don't have too?

I really have to agree with this - I also find the whole thing to be fishy. It's truly a disgrace.

To me, she's not a victim but an opportunist; she didn't get her way, end of story. Sadly, working in employment law litigation dealing with sexual harassment, I see that a lot, so that's what I'm basing this on.

And now (I could be wrong) but I doubt theatre students will get backstage like I've seen happen so many times. How sad that she not only ruined him, but ruined it for the students learning the craft.

Here’s TMI for you all…

I met my first partner in the theatre. He was 10 years older than myself. He didn’t do anything to me that I didn’t ask for, as I chased him down.

I was 12 and he was 22.

please, diva, this is completely different. everyone knows that the vast majority of people who choose a gay lifestyle are by nature pedophiles.

seriously, while i respect your honesty, i despise him for what he did, even if it was only just what you asked him to. i know it's not my place to do so, but even if you asked, begged, pleaded, cajoled and pranced naked in front of him, and even though ten years is not a long time when you're talking about 22 and 32, there's a difference at 12. that's just me.

i'm also going on record now as saying i disagree with every one of the many responses that will come after this blaming that girl for what happened.

We should not be "blaming" either party. As far as I know, no one here was there. What happened, happened. It is something, like a lot of things, that needs to be dealt with between the parties involved. People just need to take from this situation knowledge and try not to put yourselve's or someone you love in these positions.

(Even though I did laugh when I watched the news last night. They made this big deal that she was 15, and then they report that he noted that he knows he was wrong, but he thought she was 16 and they just kissed. 15 or 16 don't matter bud, legal age was 18!)

which article discussed the positions they used? do you really think you have the right to dictate to others what positions they should use?
