Rumor has it that DONKEY'S YEARS may be transferring to Broadway sometime in the next year.

Thats a shame, Donkeys Years really wasnt as funny as the critics claimed. Has Noises Off played Broadway? That is by far its superior.
Cabaret wont transfer as its too soon after the broadway revival - although I love the London revival with a passion!
Im not sure if Dirty dancing would transfer, im just not sure it would be the same smash on broadway - it would get mauled by the critics. I hope broadway audiences will embrace BillY elliot - that will be an interesting one to watch.
Light in piazza will only come to UK if the National do it. hairpsray is looking more an dmore unlikely, if it doesnt happen this year I dont think it will. dirty rotten wont come over unless a touring version around the uk happens.
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE Aida to make it over, ive wanted this show to come over for years - however its highly unlikely - it woul db perfect in the Adelphi. And with such a strong UK creative team, plus Disneys name and the right casting it would be a hit - i just dont get why it doesnt transfer!
I agree WWRY wont transfer, doubt LOTR will when it opens. Im not sure if Evita will make it accross either, or Sound Of Music.
I know - I thought POPCORN was terrific, and considering the awards it won in London I was surprised it didn't get transferred.
NS: NOISES OFF has had two Broadway productions and is huge on the regional/community and college theater circuit over here.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
Broadwayboy - Considering the monumental success of Buddy (10+ years) and The Rat Pack, I believe Jersey Boys is actually perfect for the West End. It would probably run for years.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
the latest rumour for the london hairspray - from the casting office - was that after all the postponments etc, they were going to wait to try and conincide with the publicity of the movie - which would be a clever move for those over here who haven't heard it.
i would love spelling bee to come over here, but a lot of people think that its about a very american subject - i think the popularity of avenue q shows we can cope.
would love piazza to come over, and parade finally - both have a similar feel, and could do well at somewhere like the national.
billy elliot would do well on broadway - its got an appeal in its britishness. tho they'd have to tone down the durham accents.
i'd also love spring awakening to come over - apparently there was a workshop of it over here a while ago. i think it would do well, at a small venue.
"Broadwayboy - Considering the monumental success of Buddy (10+ years) and The Rat Pack, I believe Jersey Boys is actually perfect for the West End. It would probably run for years." Jesey buys is just vey New Jersey I don't think that it would be a phenomenon on The West end.
Does anyone remember a documentary that I remember seeing about the transfer - in the early 70's - of "Two Gentlemen of Verona" (the musical) from New York to London? I have only vague memories of it and would love to see it if it's available anywhere.
Jason Robert Brown has been making mutterings about a new high-profile production of 'Parade' coming, and some people were theorising it might be at the National. That would be SO good if it were true! The National would also be excellent for 'The Light In The Piazza'. But I'm agreed that 'Jersey Boys' just probably wouldn't have as much appeal to UK audiences. Might make for a nice tour, but I don't think it'd have much West End longevity.
Hairspray WILL open in London around September(a guy who was in the band of mamma mia at the theatre where i work said he had been contacted about it).
It's a shame you wont ever see Our House because it was a great show.
Jersey boys is also planning to come over to the UK.And Dirty Dancing is going to go out to America next year according to one of the Producers of the show(he called it a cash cow).
Has the US ever had woman in black?
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
Popcorn is hysterical. I LOVED seeing that show, it was a blast.
Margo, I too enjyed See How They Run.

Urban, don't get your knickers in a twist, but it was announced this week on NY1's "Onstage" that PRISCILLA... is headed to the West End and then on to NY.

"I don't think the new London production of Cabaret will transfer so soon after the Broadway incarnation closed, and because it's style is a little more . . . peculiar than audiences may be prepared for."
What is so peculiar about it?

"Jerry Springer the Opera will never make it Broadway - the religious right just wouldn't allow it - but is opening somewhere in the US this year."
Wow, I didn't know we RRers had the power to dictate to Broadway.
The fact is that the Religious Right has no power over what makes it to Broadway and what doesn't. If they did, they would have stopped "Jesus Christ Superstar" " Angels in America" "Take Me Out" "Rent" "Corpus Christi" and about 50 other shows. The reason "Jerry Springer" isn't coming to Broadway is that producers feel they can't make a profit off of it.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

True, that is the biggest reason. But I think that a show featuring Jesus in an nappy singing about how he is a little bit gay, as well as tap-dancing KKK members with flaming crosses, a hugely overweight God singing 'It ain't easy being me' and literally hundreds of swear words is going to get more people's backs up than all the shows you mentioned put together. The recent UK tour was beset with protestors at nearly every venue and religious groups wrote to theatres urging them to pull the show from their schedules. Death threats were made against BBC personnel after it was screened and producers of the tour when it was announced.
America seems to have far more religious nutters than here and with the show's history I wouldn't want to be on the list of producers for a Broadway production. In the UK it was produced by a subsidised theatre company - can you imagine the reaction of George W Bush and Co. if that happened in the 'Land of the Free'? State funding for the arts would be cut even further than it already has been...
What is so peculiar about [Cabaret]?
The set is abstract (and frankly looks cheap) and here they've cast people more renowned for their acting ability than their singing. With the critically acclaimed Broadway production only closing a year or two ago, it is nothing radically new and there just wouldn't be any point.
Gay Jesus was done in Corpus Christi and overweight God was done in "In My Life". The reason Jerry Springer isn't done on Broadway is because the producers feel they need a star to sell it and none are right for or interested in the role.
If off-Broadway had the glory that it had in the 1960s and 70s, it would be playing at one of those houses. Also none of the "Broadway transfer" companies (Roundabout, The Public, NY Theatre Workshop, etc) seem to want to book it.
