Well, mine would be LIZ CALLAWAY, though I am also found of Karen Ziemba, Janine Lamanna, Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Sutton Foster, Sally Mayes, and Karry Butler.
That is a very difficult question. I do not have one favorite. I adore: Donna Murphy- Wonderful Town Stephanie D'Abruzzo- Avenue Q Kerry Butler- She was robbed last year for Hairspray/Bat Boy Kristin Chenowith- Encore's, Charlie Brown, Wicked Idina- Wicked I hate it this year all are so great. If I had to choose I would say I would want Stephanie to win for Katemonster but I also want Donna to win for Wonderful Town. And Kristin and Idina. It sucks to be me. (Just talking this season) Of course I love Sutton. Old time favorites: Julie Andrews Dorothy Loudon Elaine Stritch Ethel Merman Rosemary Clooney(SIGH!) Updated On: 12/24/03 at 02:27 PM
Many, many come to mind past and present. Patty Lupone, Chita Rivera, Bebe Neuwirth to the current Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoworth.
This once was a lady from Broadway..........

that take our breath away."

but how to dance in the rain."

I agree Julie Andrews has to be considered an all time great musical theater performer. I wish I could have sen her at the height of her powers in MFL and Camelot. I was fortunate to see her in Victor Victoria and, although her vocal prowess had alrteady began to fade, her stage presence and charisma was still immense.
(Also her immacculate diction and perfectly timed delivery in "Getting Married Today" and "Could I Leave You?" on the "Putting It Together" CD are for me the definitive recordings of those two songs.)

"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
