Both entertaining shows, with beautiful and exhilirating scores, great characters, and all around amazing shows. Prolly my two favorite scores of all time as well.
THE WORST
CATS. Loathe the music. Loathe the book. I have seen better performances/shows in dumps and alleys of SoHo
Because it's just embarassing that that was the longest running show of all time for a while. It's bad enough that it's second. As it is, musical theater fans aren't exactly looked at the same way as, say, Jamie Foxx fans or Jessica Simpson fans -- so when we say we're theater fans and we hold up CATS as our biggest success -- it doesn't exactly leave the best impression.
As for the MAJORITY of people thinking best or worst - are you talking about us, or the population at large, because there is a difference...
Worst: Brooklyn/In My Life(though the latter was entertaining, that doesn't make it good...)
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
"People have their opinions and that doesn't mean that their opinions are wrong or right. I just take it with a grain of salt because opinions are like as*holes, everyone has one".
-Felicia Finley-
Best: Les Mis, Crazy For You, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Last Five Years
Worst: Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Lil' Abner (I saw it at Bucks County. The worst thing ever), jane Eyre
<--- the set of A Midsummer Night's Dream that I was assistant stage manager for during the 2007 season at the STNJ outdoor stage.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree. ~Dirty Rotten Scoundrels~
There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel. ~Curtains~
It is a far, far better thing I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest I go to, than I have ever known. ~A Tale of Two Cities ~
Thats to funny i had a dream last night thatI went to go see "Wicked", but then I figured out i was seeing "Hairspray".....and they are both your favorites!
"A new chance, one that maybe has a touch of romance" -Jekyll & Hyde
*Musicals_Fan* --- how can you call yourself a musical fan and put RENT as the worst?!
I am a musicals fan but where does it say I have to like every musical?? I don't like RENT, that's a personal choice, I am allowed to like some things and not others arn't I? I bet you don't like every musical?
Best: Songs for a new world; Last five years; We will rock you (sorry, I'm a huge Queen fan!); Les Miserables; Miss Saigon; Brooklyn (I can't get enough of Once upon a time!); Ragtime; Jerry Springer: The Opera; tick, tick...Boom!; Rent; Kristina Fran Duvemala; Jekyll and Hyde; Avenue Q ...
ok, out of all those, I'd say my favourites that I can listen to over and over are Songs for a new world; Last five years and Ragtime. I think when Kristina Fran Duvemala gets transferred to Broadway and actually makes sense to me, that'll be my favourite. It really is beautiful!
Worst: Jesus Christ Superstar (except for the song Gethsemane); Cats; GREASE (the worst musical ever ever ever); Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
I think the absolute worse is definately Grease. Yuck!
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
