Adriane will be laying Miss Gardner in the Carrie Revival.

I want Saycon to do this so much.

This woman is too good to be an understudy.

Well, if Adriane can't, and it's completely understandable that she wants to stay in Doubt, I wonder who will take Shug Avery...Audra? Dunno. I hope Saycon makes the right decision.

Awwww man, The Color Purple is going to be so great. Gary is such an amazing director... he moves beyond the spectacle of theatre and helps his actors understand, define, and become their characters in a way that is simply breathtaking. And I think I have some temporary bragging rights, cause he's directed me twice re: The Color Purple - the musical.

I wish they could get some Kyra DaCosta in this - now that's fresh talent.

Again, let's hope the CASTING directors make the right decision and invite Saycon back, we still haven't heard any word on whether she's been offered the role of Broadway.

It certainly would be nice to see a talented person like Saycon finally get to originate a role.

And I adore Audra. But as gifted as she is, she isn't right for EVERY role. And I think she'd be particularly wrong for this one.

Well yeah, not for Shug I suppose. Agree about the casting directors remark, but Saycon herself makes the final decision if they want her back. Has anyone heard anything besides LaChanze at all? Eveything seems to be secretive in terms of the other casting, as one would think that the cast would already be in place, after all, theyre opening in a couple of months...

The casting directors don't make the decisions for casting. They present the options.

I emailed Saycon and asked her about it. Her response was:

"I know it is coming to Broadway, but at this time, no, I am not involved with the project. We will see what the future holds though."

So I don't think she will be participating. Plus I don't think she'de be out of her "Wicked" contract in time anyway.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Would love to see Tonya Pinkins take on the Oprah Winfrey role. (I can't remember where I put my copy of the novel right now to find the character name.)

yea i hope color purple goes over well--sounds like my type of musical, and Lachanze definately deserves some kind of award for this one!

It was a few weeks ago... but even if she wanted to do it, she wouldn't be out of her contract in time (she hinted at this in an email following but didn't out and out say it.) Her contract for "Wicked" won't be up until January, and the show starts previews in October, meaning rehearsels are starting up soon so she'de have to be out of her contract pretty much already to do it.

I still think she's going to be taking over for Elphaba, regardless of what everyone else on BWW thinks. Ana and Kate don't end their runs in Chicago until January 22nd. Shoshana Bean departs January 8th. PLUS Kate Reinders hinted in a recent interview that Ana was getting so much work she wouldn't be able to commit to a full Broadway schedule.

Well, I wonder if the cast might just be who did the workshop, after all, that would make sense. Broadway.com's Ken Mandelbaum talked about who did the workshop in his recent preview of The Color Purple and Lestat. The cast at the workshop was LaChanze, Felicia P. Fields, and Kingsley Leggs repeating their roles from the Atlanta mounting. The roles of Shug and Nettie were filled by Elisabeth Withers-Mendes and Rutina Wesley, though I don't know who played which role.
