I absolutely do not hate the idea of Gaga as Sally. I do however, hate the idea of Cooper as the Emcee.

Interesting. I love the original film adaptation. Despite it barely resembling the stage production, it manged to become one of the finest movie musicals ever produced.
If Cooper were to remake this with Gaga, I would assume they'd keep a Liza-espue Sally, rather than the stage version of Sally. Liza was a vocal powerhouse in a role that traditionally doesn't require the greatest of vocal prowess.

There were rumors he would be in the MERRILY revival but I heard he recently stepped away from that project.

I like Bradly Cooper - I think he's a good actor, and his performance in Elephant Man blew me away. But I despised his "A Star is Born," and I hate the idea of him playing the Emcee or even Cliff.
Having said that, I'm not much of a fan of the original Cabaret film (a controversial opinion, I know). So I'd be curious to see a remake that's somewhat more faithful to the stage version.

If they restored the Lotte Lenya (Fraulein Schneider) stage character into the film script, Gaga would be perfect in that role. Seriously, I'd like to hear her versions of "So What?" and "What Would You Do?" She'd be great no doubt. Now if only Tony Bennett could play opposite her as Herr Schultz.

Many people consider it the greatest film musical ever made. (I'm no stranger to controversial opinion myself; I don't like the Chicago film).

100%. A Cabaret remake would be such a big deal that we would have heard about long before he visited the show, and even Cooper isn't powerful enough to get the wheels moving on that sort of thing within a week.
Although, if this is real, Michelle Williams could have been a good Sally. Maybe she and Coop didn't get on during Maestro?

Fosse’s Cabaret film is one of my top 10 favorite movies, but as an adaptation, it’s not great. It’s its own thing — and isn’t even really a musical. (All the music is diegetic/location-based, with songs either jettisoned or used in the background, or existing only as performances numbers in the club.) I’d love a new take on it that’s closer to the more traditionally “musical” stage version. And utilizing Mendes’ version’s DNA would be nice.

The OP shared a Tweet stating that Cooper was looking into getting the rights to do it. There’s no way there would be an announcement or any confirmation that it was happening if it was in such an early stage of development. Also. there’s no evidence that it was his visit to the show last week that inspired his interest in the project, so he may have been “getting the wheels moving” for more than a week.

I was so excited for Sienna Miller. On paper (to me) she seemed perfect for it but her performance really left me wanting more. I went back a couple weeks later hoping it was just an "off" night I went but it was the same. I'm still surprised that she wasn't as great as I thought she'd be.

I heard about this! NY Post even did an article on Sienna during her Cabaret run, saying similar words. I think Sienna Miller following right after Emma Stone, theater goers were expecting a bit* more. I absolutely love Sienna and I would love to see her return to Broadway though.

Firstly, I’ll confess that I just have a hard time separating it from the show. Most of my favorite material from the show is cut, so it’s just hard to watch it without thinking about that. On principle, I do agree it should be treated as its own thing, I just have a hard time getting there.
If I’m thinking more critically, less sentimentally: it’s not so much the cuts that bother me (despite my statements above, I’m the furthest thing from a purist), as much as the material that takes their place. The increased focus on the love triangle is just not very interesting to me. And likewise, I find Fritz and Natalia to be boring replacements for Schneider and Schultz, and I don’t care much (lol) for that whole new plot line.
