SO's performative concern trolling is worse than what he was doing before. It's just engagement baiting under the guise of justice. (also, why has he taken to wearing vintage clothing? He looks like an angry egg that got cast in a community theater production of Music Man).

Bless you for this! So true!

But even if he's approaching being correct 51% of the time (barely more than a coin toss), he's so insufferable that any scoop he may have isn't worth it.

Shocked more Broadway stars haven’t spoken out publicly against him. I’d imagine if/when he releases whatever nonsense documentary he keeps referring to about Michael Arden is when serious legal action will finally be taken against him, and rightfully so.

Folks in the industry seem to generally avoid publicly acknowledging him, which is probably for the best.

The thing is, he's not wrong about there being abusers in the industry. But he has poisoned his own well with his antics, not to mention the fact he is incentivized to be sensationalist for engagement. On top of all of it, he is not a journalist and is in no way equipped to be handling sensitive and fraught issues like this. He lacks the training and, frankly, the integrity. He just repeats whatever he claims he is told and sees what sticks.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

The reactions to the allegations against Ben Davis are telling. Instead of engaging with the claim that multiple women reported inappropriate behavior, people here are mocking the messenger’s body, his clothes, and even suggesting he should be sued. His entire point was that the industry enables this behavior because people simply don’t care. This thread proves it.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

I take allegations of abuse seriously when they come from legitimate sources. But Sweaty Oracle is not a good-faith reporter and relies on sensationalism to draw engagement. He also defended himself in the past as someone who merely repeats what he's been told with verifying it. Vague allegations from a compromised source with his own very clear and self-serving agenda should not be seen as immediately credible. Smearing somebody as an abuser on such shaky grounds is unethical.

“Legitimate sources” only exist after people are willing to listen. If the default response is to mock, minimize, or delegitimize the first person who speaks up, then no legitimate source ever emerges. That’s how abuse stays invisible.

What allegations? What claim? So far all there's been is vagueposting. When the messenger doesn't say anything, there's no message to react to, so the only thing left to focus on is the messenger.

You are using the fact that you do not like SO as an excuse to treat these allegations like they are fake, instead of facing that women came to him saying Ben Davis mistreated them. You are more interested in playing gotcha on a message board than engaging with what those women described. That instinct to dismiss their claims because you dislike the messenger is exactly how people stay protected and victims get ignored, and it is sick.

That he... dates younger women? Like not even 18 year olds, but women in their 20s and 30s? Something no one had any smoke for when he was in Ragtime which was (checks watch) right now? Incredibly performative crowing.

I don't know anything about SO and am not one of the people in the thread who expressed dislike toward him. I only ever view his stories when he's mentioned here, which is the only reason I viewed them today, and found one post that vagueposted about Davis, several others about past offenders, plus Simard in Schmigadoon.

You are more interested in playing gotcha on a message board than engaging with what those women described.

I'm not playing gotcha and I'm not dismissing anything. I literally cannot engage with what those women described because I have no idea what they described. What did they describe? Where is it? You demand people be as outraged as you are about something that you refuse to name. Why are you gatekeeping what you claim everyone should be outraged about?

Sweaty Oracle is doing something very dangerous. Asking for moral purity in order to be on a Broadway show.
We don’t even ask that for politicians.
I just think is scary when we start digging actors personal lives in order to check for morality for them to be worthy of a role on Broadway

Women went to him privately and said Ben Davis treated them inappropriately. That’s why this is being discussed. Turning around and insisting you can’t engage until you personally see their accounts lets you shift the entire conversation onto access instead of the seriousness of what those women reported. Calling that gatekeeping doesn’t expose anything. It just dodges what they said.

And instead of actually doing any sort of ethical journalism and vetting he's spitting that **** out of his mouth in under 24 hours which he is doing because he has no actual people inside to corroborate and waits on randoms to drop something in his email.

Women went to him privately and said Ben Davis assaulted or treated them inappropriately. That’s the fact. Calling him a tabloid‑level stirrer is just a cheap way to pretend their accounts don’t matter. If sneering at the person they trusted is the best you can do, you’re not exposing anything. You’re just making it easier for yourself to ignore what those women reported.

Calling basic accountability asking for moral purity is ridiculous. Nobody is asking actors to be saints. The point is that when people say someone caused real harm, brushing it off as moral policing is just a way to pretend the behavior doesn’t matter. Broadway isn’t a church. It’s a workplace.

Allegedly. Sweaty oracle gets anonymous emails. People affected can go to authorities and producers and take legal action.
everyone in Ragtime loves David’s and he’s has zero issues.
again just a random guy on instagram scream to void doesn’t make things true.

Saying “allegedly” doesn’t erase what the women told him directly. Acting like their accounts don’t matter unless they march into an office and file something is just a way to pretend nothing happened. “Everyone in Ragtime loves him” has nothing to do with how he treated people outside that bubble. And calling firsthand reports “a random guy screaming into the void” is you deciding truth only exists when it arrives in a format that you personally approve.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

The vagueness is what's continually offputting about Sweaty. If he's got legitimate, newsworthy information to share, at least do High School Newspaper level of reporting, instead of some vague reference to "dark sexual behavior that's legal but creepy" (paraphrasing) and five minutes of screaming about the industry. What he just posted helps nobody.

He didn’t give “vague references.” He said he spoke directly to the women. It would be a betrayal for him to divulge any specifics. Acting like this information is useless because it isn’t packaged like a school newspaper is just a way of pretending their experiences don’t matter. Calling it “not helping anyone” is the same tired move, treating revelations about harm as an inconvenience instead of something serious and seriously worth hearing.

Again, we can't dodge anything when nothing has been said.

In what way did he treat them inappropriately? I don't need to see their accounts. I need to know in what way he was inappropriate to react in any way. What's being discussed aren't any allegations; it's that we don't know what the allegations are, because you're the only one who seems to know.

Many posters on this board treat people in what I consider inappropriate ways. That doesn't mean it's assault.

From your other post: "Women went to him privately and said Ben Davis assaulted or treated them inappropriately."

Which is it? Assaulted them or treated them inappropriately? Both? Some experienced one and others experienced the other?

So far you've alleged even more than the oracle person has, and you haven't even been specific about what you're alleging.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

I don't know whether the allegations against Ben Davis are true or not. What I do know is true is that I've spent the past week watching the entire Broadway community uncritically praise a man who openly dated a barely-legal woman that he had been a mentor to since she was 13 and he was 32, so I'm inclined to believe that the industry is incapable or unwilling to hold people accountable for deeply inappropriate behavior.
