Re: New Hadestown Casting

The Distinctive Baritone said: "The social media backlash against Geno Segers is pretty bad. If this continues, I can see the team buying him out of his contract and bringing in someone else. People are furious about those old YouTube videos."

Yeah I haven’t seen the show since the original cast, but I’m going to be in town for the Falsettos concert and I love NLB so thought about grabbing a ticket, but don’t feel like supporting this guy. Hopefully they replace him

Re: New Hadestown Casting

For a production with a deserved reputation for doing a great job bringing in replacements, and Amber Iman is just another example of that, this seems like a very unfortunate mistake - especially with the show at a higher profile in the wake of the success of the proshot

Re: New Hadestown Casting

If the casting of west side story taught me anything, or the recent comeback of certain producers… it’s that Broadway (the machine) is truly dark behind the scenes and doesn’t give a crap.

Shame on Hadestown. Two bad eggs in a row = shame on them.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

If they fire Segers I’d be concerned Fox News will pick up this story and the show becomes the target of anti trans psychopaths.

The best way forward is probably Segers posting a sincere apology, but him going private is not a great look…

That's not how contracts work. That guy sucks tho.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

Damn his casting is bad. They have to get rid of him or it will turn even uglier. If I was a fan of this show and went regularly, I’d be incredibly upset about his casting.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

Was genuinely excited to see Butz and Iman in these roles but Segers joining them means I won't be getting a ticket. Really disappointing choice, especially with the timing of the proshot featuring a trans actor.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

If he stays in the show, I'm curious to see if their grosses take a nosedive. How sad considering Norbert and Amber are brilliant choices.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Yeah, his Instagram went private and the full video on YouTube is now gone.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

Ummmm they need to buy him out of his contract. WTF.

He has made videos opposing trans women in women's sports and mocking pronoun sharing. AND, he’s argues against the existence of systemic sexism and suggesting women should "know when to shut up" during arguments.

Hadestown producers HELLO?? HELLO!!!

Re: New Hadestown Casting

Nothing like a Broadway show casting an open homophobic a$$. I feel bad for the cast. Can't imagine they welcome him with open arms.

Thank goodness!! Though, wondering if he got bought out or he stepped down mutually because of the backlash. Hopefully this homophobic asshat isn't on Faux News down the road saying he was fired.

Holding out until they announce the replacement on buying tickets but this is a very good move in the right direction.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

Dear God can they PLEASE get Marc Kudisch as Hades, already? I’ve been waiting 8 years.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

I have to imagine that performers like Amber Iman were absolutely none too pleased to learn about Seger's views. I just truly don't understand how he even got to this point. A total failure on the producing / casting side.

Either they were aware, and decided not to care.

OR

They weren’t aware, which means they are not doing any due diligence before offering someone a major role on Broadway.

Either way you look at it, it’s not good.

This new cast likely starts rehearsals next week. Guessing it'll be a former Hades or one of the understudies. I'd love to see Eddie Noel Rodriguez in the role full-time.

I can’t imagine it wasn’t a buyout.

This was a mutual agreement between Segers and the producers.

Check Amber Iman’s IG story. She openly says she was demanding answers behind the scenes.

Thank goodness the cast was also standing up and speaking out behind the scenes.
