In my humble opinion, a night at the theatre isn't complete without a good cry (!) so, what do you guys think are the most moving songs in musical theatre?
I have a fair few!:
"Thank Goodness" and "For Good" - Wicked "Down Once More.../Finale" - Phantom of The Opera "Somethings are Meant To Be" - Little Women "Don't Cry Out Loud" - The Boy From Oz "Tell Me On A Sunday" - Song and Dance "Feed The Birds" - Mary Poppins
Lemme know, X
I got you. Yeah, I got you on camera - you on candid camera now... An' you ain't know that...
..oh I forgot the name, but the one that Peter sings to his Mother, trying to tell him he's gay but she eludes from the knowledge of it, in Bare: A Pop Opera..I cry everytime!
Goodbye Love and Mimi's death scene in RENT, and Angel's death, and Collin's reaction to ANgel's death..
Fantasies Come True (staged)..Rod is so vulnerable!
I Am What I Am from La Cage
All I Ask Of You from Phantom
...there are many more that I can't think of..
And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps...
What did she realize, Kitten?
That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs.
What's wrong with that?
Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had...
Where?
On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.
Miss Saigon "The Fall of Saigon"... I actually call it the helicopter song
But yours are also great, I just wanted to add that song to the list... and also "Your eyes" RENT {sung by Adam Pascal}
Including yours: "Thank Goodness" and "For Good" - Wicked "Somethings are Meant To Be" - Little Women "Don't Cry Out Loud" - The Boy From Oz "Feed The Birds" - Mary Poppins and "Empty Chairs" Les Mis {sung by Michael Ball}
All of these songs are the most moving to me... starting from Miss Saigon ~Kangaroo
NIL MAGNUM NISI BONUM "No greatness without goodness."
RENThead, enLIGHist, Ozalot, Grobanite, Ringer, Pickwick LW, Wicked, Lost, American Dreams, West Wing
Lea S. Hugh J. Adam P. Idina M. Matt M. Taye D.
No More, No One is Alone, Children Will Listen - INTO THE WOODS Children and Art, Changing, Move On, Sunday - SUNDAY...GEORGE most of BARE Come on In from the Outside - TABOO Glory, most of RENT
etc.
"If you are going to do something, do it well. And leave something witchy."-Charlie Manson
Ohh yeah, As Long As You're Mine. Forgot about that one. And I like Seymour's solo in The Meek Shall Inherit. It's not necessarily moving and tear jerking but its sweet and has a nice message.
I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart.

Most of Rent... but I must specifically mention One Song Glory, the song that got me into the show in the first place. Also: End of Defying Gravity, For Good, Finale (Wicked) Somewhere (West Side Story) Written in the Stars, Enchantment Passing Through Reprise (Aida) What I Did for Love (A Chorus Line) [When performed correctly, like in a regional production I saw] Look to the Rainbow (Finian's Rainbow) If I Can't Love Her (Beauty and the Beast) All I Ask of You (Poto) And I'm sure I'll think of more...
The most touching song EVER, most definitely has to be "YOU CAN BE AS LOUD AS THE HELL YOU WANT WHEN YOUR MAKING LOVE" from avenue Q, and coming in at a close second place would have to be COME WITH ME from andrew lippa's THE WILD PARTY.
oh right - i saw a clip of for good/finale at Cheno's last performance, and that was REALLY sad! She cried so hard in the final line "because i knew you" that the audience clapped for her wildly and completely drowned out Idina and the orch. lol X
I got you. Yeah, I got you on camera - you on candid camera now... An' you ain't know that...
