Neo, their grosses might be fine, but if their advance is absolutely abysmal, the producers might figure it's better to close than to waste more money by running the show for a few more weeks where it won't meet the weekly cost.
"This show ain't Wicked, this show ain't Lion King. "
Hell, this show lost the Tony to Lion King.

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
My inside sources say that no closing notice has been posted. So that makes the people saying it has -that makes them..what is that word again? Liars? Mistaken? Dissemblers? S**t stirrers?
hardly conclusive evidence, but Ragtime now has five nights next week posted on tdf ... a pretty clear break from its prior strategy. (which, as noted, has only included tdf twice before, on holiday-ish nights where butts generally are not in broadway theater seats.)
the reason I post it as inside info is not to brag - it is so people KNOW it is reliable...the proof that my info was correct is evident. Let's see...twitter supposedly saying a closing notice had been posted. Another chatboard was cited here claiming a closing notice had been posted. My info said it was not true...and today still no word of a closing notice...mmmm...interesting.
I don't think it was about a *closing notice* in terms of a specific date the show is closing; rather the reports were the cast were told they show is closing but they weren't given dates or anything...kind of like, it will be 'closing soon' kind-of-thing.
Do you claim this is also wrong?
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
actually on ATC the claim was the a closing in 2 weeks WAS POSTED. That claim was made in this thread in posts that have since been deleted. It was false. The cast were NOT told that they are closing. That is false. but the cast and anyone else would have to be brain dead to not realize that without an increase in business in the near future this all will come to be true. Meanwhile Valisia Lekae rocked it last night as Sarah in place of Wally Pipp (um,I mean Stephanie Umoh) and she goes on again tonight..You go girl!
In the event that it IS closing...not to celebrate actors losing work or to rush it out, because I really enjoyed Ragtime. But does anyone have more of a concrete thought or source of whats replacing it before Phantom 2...1st wives,Carrie(lol), Fences,ect...I did some searching and couldn't quite find a thread devoted to it.
The only Jujacyn Theatre I could only see American Idio playing in is the Eugene O'Neill. The only other theater that might open up is the St. James, but I feel that theater would be too big for the show.
