Coondiggitydogg: Please do NOT even say "how dare i" while twisting what I say.

I quote my previous post"
"How would she come off in a well written role, in a show where the entire cast is top notch?"

You write:

"that is a great cast minus the men"

Did I not say entire? I have also heard many negative things about the girl playing Amy (I believe, I get the sister's names mixed up). The youngest one.

Again, do not start telling me what I can or cannot say. Please the CAPS are not needed. I have been nothing but civil.

WOW. D-E-F-E-N-S-I-V-E. but yeah amy was bit much. I like the caps they add some pizaz. I honestly think that sutton does have backing while not as much as Vicotoria Clark. But her performance is not amazing because the rest of the show sucks, it is because SHE IS AMAZING! see if i were to say it i would have punctuated those last words thats how caps works.

and im not telling you what to say. a "how dare you" is more i can't believe u have the balls to say that comment, not a you can't say that i will have u thrown in jail for that comment. I mean common freedom of speech, not communit russia (pillowman)

I love Sutton and havent seen her in Little Women but unfortunatley, she doesnt have the buzz Victoria Clark has nor does she have the buzz that made TMM such a hit (this buzz, of course, that I am refering to were the raves SHE recieved). Sutton has one hell of a voice but I think that Victoria will win because I hear she is giving a phenomenally moving and strong performance in LITP.

Trust me, I love Sutton. I haven't seen Victoria Clark's performance yet, but I have seen Sutton's. Sutton was fabulous, but her performance didn't scream out a sure-fire Tony win. I think that's more a fault of the material she's working with than of Sutton as an actress. I enjoyed Little Women very much, but it has a lot of problems. It's a mediocre show whose morale is boosted by a lot of heart, and a very touching story. The acting rides on the shoulders of Sutton and Maureen McGovern. The sisters aren't bad, per se, but they're certainly nothing to write home about. John Hickok is packed with talent, but his part isn't big enough to fix anything.

Before I heard about Clark, I figured that because of the seeming lack of competition, Sutton would probably end up winning anyway, and even though I can't accurately compare yet, I'm willing to be open to a possible switch-up of my own opinions.

That said, relax and don't twist what other people say. You talk about freedom of speech, yet you address TGIF with a "HOW DARE YOU" when she expresses her opinion, simply because it's not in coincidence with yours. If YOU dare to do that, you're in need of a serious reality check of your understanding of your First Amendment rights, as well as in your theatre-related, clearly tunnel-shaped views. First you tell TGIF that the show comes alive in Act II, which on your part isn't really a great line of defense. If a show needs an entire damned ACT to come alive, what does that say for it, now? Secondly, she didn't say anything that was blatantly anti-Sutton, and first you jump down her throat for saying the show was mediocre, then you say that Sutton's performance is amazing because she's amazing. You're not only giving a half-assed argument, but you're making no sense. If you're going to so naively stick to your guns, at least have a sensical argument. And no matter what your argument is, civility deserves civility back. I don't care how much people disagree with you, you have no right to react like that to a bland statement of opinion.

I love Sutton, so don't take this as me saying that I'm not, but she's probably not a shoe-in this year. That doesn't make her any less great, but she's very young still, and there ARE people who are better than her. There are also people who shine more simply because they have better parts, one of which sounds like it may be Clark.

The only reason I saw LW was to see Sutton, and she did do a great job, the rest of the show.... i'll keep my opinion to myself since I don't want to anger anyone.
But I do think she is going to have some competition this year, she's definately not a shoo-in. Though I do adore her, don't get me wrong.

"a "how dare you" is more i can't believe u have the balls to say that comment"

Well, I do not have any balls. I am female. It turns out that you agree with my comments on the cast. You said that "amy was bit much" and "great cast minus the men".

I do not understand your logic though. First you say "I like the caps they add some pizaz". Then you write "see if i were to say it i would have punctuated those last words thats how caps works."

I understand that capitalizing puts emphasis on the words and shows that you are stressing them. Saying "HOW DARE YOU SAY THE CASTS SUCKS!" reads (and I assume many others - correct me if I am wrong) like you are yelling and intend to sound angry. If I am wrong what did you mean to sound like?

"And Applegate will probably be nominated by pure celebrity status; this also hurts other contenders chances; big names hurt the true theatre performers; I think." - Catstagestud

Cat, if anything she has proven herself to be in the last few months, it is a true theatre performer. Maybe she doesn't give the best performance, but she has proven herself to be a fighting force. She worked her butt off to get back in shape to be on Broadway then came back fighting when they tried to cancel the production. Applegate has proven herself to be a force that shouldn't be reckoned with and I really admire her spunk regardless of how wonderful or not her performance is. Give the women the credit she deserves.

I still agree Sutton deserves it but beating Victoria Clark will be very, VERY hard.

Let us all not forget, that while LW didnt recieve the best notices - Sutton Foster was told that the town of New York is already hers (and of the like by many a crtic)! Lets hope Tony Voters agree!

You have to remember that voters may feel that it's finally Clark's turn now that she got her (deserved) starring role.

I just have this feeling that Clark, while admirable, got good reviews and is a nice lady is going to suffer the same exact fate of Tonya Pinkins did last year. The show opens later in the season, is very artsy, and while a good performance doesn't compare to the more physical and layered performance Sutton gives in Little Women.

Hold on while I laugh at the thought of Sutton giving a "layered" performance while Clark's is not.

Ok, I feel better now. Sutton puts on her game face for that show and it's all energy and spunk. There's no layering...and, as written, Jo March goes nowhere. Things happen to her but nothing really changes.
Clark's performance is much more layered and textured.
True, she might suffer from Tonya Pinkins' fate (I still consider Pinkins' performance in Caroline one of the definitive musical renditions of a new character, along with Merman's Rose, Channing's Dolly or Martin's Peter Pan) but I somehow doubt it's going to be a loss at the hands of Sutton.

Hey now, I personally thought Clark faulters majorly with her accent and left me feeling very very flat.

I think it's rather funny that people keep saying she faltered with her accent. Victoria's from Texas. She was QUITE believable to me (and I'm from the South). And those people who thought she sounded a little British at times have obviously not spent much time in the South because, quite frankly, that parallel is pretty accurate.

People who are not from the south seem to not understand there is an "aristocratic" southern accent, as well as a hick accent. For an obviously wealthy woman from North Carolina it was almost perfect. My wife's accent comes and goes in almost exactly the same way.
As far as the Tony, I haven't seen Sutton but Clark was powerful. I will see Christina Tuesday. I think they all have a chance.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.
