Posted: 4/24/08 at 8:38amI don't have the skills or desire to write out a review here (and if I did it would be riddled with spoilers and attempts to ruin the best lines/moments of the show), but I just have to chime in that I both loved and hated it. A GREAT show is in there, but probably can't be found in 12 days (especially with Nick still in Cry-Baby, therefore not around for song rewrites). Still, I kind of want to go back ASAP.

I, too, saw the first preview of GLORY DAYS. I wanted to love it. I wanted to support young artists suddenly thrust into the Broadway spotlight from a regional. Talk about a dream come true. I was hoping for brilliance. There is no brilliance on display.
It is frankly an embarrassment on all levels. I feel so bad for all involved. I think there was a gross miscalculation about bringing this show in.
Everyone is trying very hard, but the acting is just not up to New York standards, the music is blahhhhhh, the story is totally boring and full of "we've seen it before" stereotypes and the set....well.....what set? The lighting is a 4th rate knock-off of better shows like PASSING STRANGE and NEXT TO NORMAL. All in all, a truly atrocious evening in the theatre.
I wish this review were exactly the opposite. I wish I could rave and say how amazing it is. Alas, it is just not a good show.I think it is going to be crucified by the critics.

Posted: 4/24/08 at 2:12pmI like it (at least the songs), and I have nothing invested in the show. I honestly could careless if it fails or becomes a hit. Although, I wouldn't mind if it became a hit, so I could audition for it, but whatever.

Sadly Kalimba, when your last several posts on this site look like this, you're not doing much to intelligently refute Didi3's (albeit not totally eloquent) suggestion that the negativity in this thread seems to be coming from some place of unhappiness that's outside of the posters' experience at GLORY DAYS:

Work is work. Where she might have been very good in Legally Blonde, she was just plain dull in Wicked. Don't think the agents dropped the ball at all. Wicked is a steady gig (which are in very short supply).

The sooner she leaves Broadway the better. Can't believe they would still keep her on the payroll. Her performance as Glinda was adequate at best, and that's being kind.
What's pathetic is how witch-hunty people on this board get about shows and people they don't enjoy. I understand sharing opinions and experiences you've had, but this trend of attacking anyone who thinks positively about a show or suggesting that they are somehow involved is sad and a waste of energy.

You mention a "witch hunt" but you are the one who is trying to hunt Kalimba. Did you seriously go through Kalimba's thread history to pick out all of the negative posts?? and then take the time to copy and paste?

My point is that *many* posters here, you being the example I chose to use, are almost always negative in their posts. To me, and probably a few others out there, that says that your opinions should be taken with a grain of salt because there may be something else going on.

Yeah, knowing when a show is overrated and shouldn't be taken seriously.
The other posters have the choice to agree/disagree and even read my opinion but as long as this is the internet, I have every right to go right along and post my feelings.
I don't ATTACK posters though... unless they deserve it?
