I'm guessing they thought that previews were starting THIS monday?
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
No, the previews started LAST Monday and there was so much confusion about whether Elena is ROGER or ROGERS that they closed the show and are doing a revival of BLOOMER GIRL with Darren Criss instead.
I thought Elena was dynamite in Evita in the West End. If I didn't know the score as well I may have had trouble with understanding her (at the time she knew so little English she learned the role phonetically and her real-life Argentine accent was T H I C K) but by the time I caught her in Passion at the Donmar in 2010, she had a full command of the language and bypassed Donna Murphy, Patti Lupone and Judy Kuhn as the greatest Fosca I've ever seen.
the producers, director michael grandage and i would assume Andrew Llyod Webber have all given Elena their collective blessings - so I'm planning on seeing a star making performance...and
i have tickets for the monday night a bit after it opens - please tell me she's going to be performing. for someone who let's say doesnt exactly have the largest resume on Broadway, I'd sort of expect to her to perform for at least the evening performances

In London there are no set altinate rules, it varies from show to show, but it's very rare for them not to no matinees as a rule. Maybe midweek matinee and evening but as a Saturday matinee is one of the most popular shows in the week they don't tend to take that off, Jersey Boys the exception I think. The schedule before opening night was different.
Personally I wouldn't say Roger is a must see but my biggest diss appointment was in the show itself, as it flopped in London really I wonder if any changes will be made

I think the gist is: West End alternates are a crapshoot.
I do actually want to see Elena Roger (my former roommate raved about her, but also enjoyed the alternate), though I can't say I'll be all broken up to see Christina DeCicco. Unless I end up hating this production, I like Evita too much to see it just once.
