I know i've earned the right to put my 20 cents into this thread whenever i have something *worthwhile* to say, so here goes again, on the thread with no ending. As a rule, unless a pop-star is struggling financially (Braxton), waning in popularity (Taylor Dayne, Joey Fatone, Scary Spice), desperate to prove they have different *skills* (Madonna, back in the day), or just plain in need of some quick press (Michelle Williams), they DO NOT have the time, nor would they have the inclination to do Broadway.

It is far less lucrative and far more time consuming. These are busy, well paid people, who can't afford (literally) to take off a chunk of time to be the 18th replacement in some Disney show.

I believe that Tamyra Gray had more on her plate and chose not to do Aida. Broadway is not the walk in the park everyone seems to think it is. And according to the feelings of my close acquaintances on the great white way, I hear it's also, for the most part, thankless.

Dame: LOL!

TheTruth:
Unfortunately, if Tamyra's trying to compile a cd full of material written only by herself, it's going to be hard as he!l for her to land a record contract with a 'major' record label. I pray that Tamyra releases her debut cd on an independent label who's willing to take a chance on TRUE talent. In the end - she'll be much better off...financially especially. My girl Jill Scott is a prime example of the success one can have by not compromising self!!!

And yeah, I've heard some shady stuff about JRecords. Deborah is no longer with them...though i'm not sure exactly why or if she's found a new label yet. As for Monica, IMHO i think the reason her album didn't do as well as her previous two was because she didn't have very many 'Mtv friendly' singles. Like it or not, Mtv can make or break an artists multi-platinum status. Ain't that a b!tch??
Personally, I thought Monica's new cd sounded a bit rushed...and surely this had a lot to do with her having to re-record the cd after the initial release was leaked via the internet.

Al: oh how i've missed you!! re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re:
For the most part, I too agree with what you stated. However, depending upon the audience you're trying to reach, broadway isn't really the way to go if you're trying to be pop-you-who-ler! Treynece post-poned her shot at AIDA because she didn't feel it would put her in the reach her true fan-base. She opted instead to star in a more 'urban' show entitled "Not A Day Goes By" (currently touring the states). And you're right, bway is no walk in the park...UNLESS of course you're someone like Toni Braxton, Michelle Williams or Deborah Cox...i.e. in it for the 'short-haul'.

Aldente;
Welcome back! I agree 100 % with you. What I was trying to say is that I don't think Tamayra has as much on he plate as we would hope she has. ( I get all the gossip first hand about people who have been involved on that show). Regardless; I also think it would have been a career mistake.

Tamayra Gray did in act audition for Aida and turned in a unfortunate audition. She was in fact working on a album 2 years ago but J records dropped her for personal reasons.
Thetruth:
You can put whatever spin you want on it and dresss up the truth whatever way you want. But facts are facts. Now lets just hope for the best for this very talented girl and that whatever issues she has that are holding her back get quickly resolved. What I have heard unfortunately of her new upcoming album is not very good.

From what I've been told, Tamyra was dropped from J Records because she wanted complete creative control over her album and J wasn't feeling that. Alas, Tamyra has written 12 of the 13 songs set to appear on her debut album.

In the long run, Tamyra is probably better off not being on J Records anyway. As was mentioned earlier, all they care about is Alicia. She's talent but not as great as they try to make her out to be.

Yeah, AIDA probably would've been a move in the wrong direction for her - being that she isn't an 'established' artist. But as an AIDA fanatic - I would have LOVED to have heard her take on the material. I love Tamyra's voice and hope the material she's written for herself really and truly showcases her talent.

Here is my five dollas worth

Hell yes Deborah Cox is established and world renound.

Deborah Cox has the longest running number one R&B single in history "Nobody's Suppoed to Be Here" and has two Platinum plus albums

Aditionally, I am in a graduate progam here in the states that has a large international population 9 out of 10 of them know who Deborah Cox is...can name a song and wish she would perfrom in their countries...these are both club music fans and radio music fans.

As far as AIDA...I'm gonna see for myself a week from today.

Yall are funny. I'm new here but I dig the personalities. LOL at Hussy Power...I love it. LOL

The 304's are really trying it this week! First, Dame her name is spelled Tamyra. I stated as facts that Tamyra was dropped and disputed YOUR ASSUMPTION that Tamyra had only started working on her CD recently, which are facts. When I used the words "I'm assuming" I was simply trying to fill in the blanks for CRP and those who want to carry on intelligent conversation. The fact is her CD was complete. All I said is that I assumed that it had been mastered, etc and ready to go litterly aside from it actually being replicated. She didn't go into specifics. She said it was "done" which is why I put forth my own opinions on what that meant and pre-empted it by saying that it was my own interp of what she meant by "done." Same thing with what I said about her turning down Aida. Her sister said that she got it but turned it down to concentrate on her CD. I stated that as a fact. Then I said in another post that I assumed she had some sort of conference with her label or got word of a CD release date before officially turning it down. So, in short, I have never stated anything as fact then taken it back as an assumption. I'm just specifying between my own reasoning and actual events as they happened. Don't make me have to read you again on these boards.

Theatermafia, I don't think I'm really putting a spin on anything. I'm not dressing up anything. I'm using those critical thinking skills my teacher taught me! LOL The laws of nature and common sense tell me that if Michelle got that part, Tamyra had to have gotten it. Again, I considered that just my own reasoning. But once I heard from Tamyra's sister then I made up my mind. I don't see why Tamyra or her sister would lie? Tamyra's the girl who admits that she did bad and deserved to leave the night she was booted from AI and openly admits that Kelly should have won? She could just say. I did bad. I didn't get the part and move on. People would still love her. You say facts are facts, but mostly everybody here is relying on hearsay. Whether it be from a AI behind the scenes person or an Aida person or Tamyra's own flesh and blood (Wink, wink) Unless any of us were there then we don't know. Like I said before to CRP, I'm just putting out the other side of the story. And from what I see the girls get antzy when someone challenges (for the point of reaching some type of reasoned conclusion)b'way gossip, which we all know is so reliable.

No honey. She is not a superstar. She is a well known liked recording artist with a strong following. She is not a superstar. do you want to get into what the difference is? Or do you just want to go back and read early on in this thread? ANd Socrates; you will love Deborah in Aida. She makes this mediocre show seem decent.

I hear yall on the superstar word not quite fitting(yet)...but the "she just has a club following" statement is totally off.

She is a sweetheart...not many people with her level of stardom can say that.
