Is anyone aware of this? My parents didn't find out till they got to the theater. not that they could care less about Deborah Cox but I reccomended the show to them based on her performance. Updated On: 4/15/04 at 02:03 PM

And this surprises you? Music stars barely ever have to sing live, let alone 8 times a week. Hell, they barely have to sing in the studio anymore. The rigors of an 8 show a week schedule is most likely too much for Ms. Cox. Before any of her employees (a.k.a. sh(r)ills) get on me about how awesome and amazing she is, I'm not slighting her, just pointing out the obvious that she is probably too delicate for a normal B'way schedule.

thats interesting, because when I saw AIDA on a Tuesday night, Deborah was on...unless it was a clone who signed my playbill "Deborah". Hmmm....

Yes - ticketmaster will inform you (before you purchase tickets) which shows Deborah will be performing in. You can also call the Palace Theater and ask them for her schedule. Sorry to hear that your parents missed her.

Al Dente-
Why do you make so many unfounded statements? "Music stars barely ever have to sing live..." - HELLO!! We're talking about a VOCALIST here, NOT Britney Spears!! Deborah never has to lip sing and her live performances (i.e. AIDA) have received rave reviews.
As for her performance schedule - Deborah happens to have a husband and baby boy at home. Is she really less of an artist for having a work schedule that compliments her family values? Besides, I think it's great that the understudy is given the opportunity to shine while Deborah is off.
And I know I've told you this before, but PLEASE look up the word SLIGHT before using it in another post where in which you do NOTHING BUT slight another person.
Thanks in advance!

Well; it might have just stated that but she is NOT doing Tuesday evenings either. And I am sure the alternate is fine and I am happy someone else gets to do the role... but the marquee says DEBORAH COX. The adds say DEBORAH COX. The flyers they are giving out at tkts say DEBORAH COX and I assure you when I bought the tickets thru ticketmaster at the time it said nothing about her not doing Tuesday evenings. (Also; she wasn't out sick.. she is just not doing Tuesday nights).

Unfortunately, they don't sell tickets using the names of the understudies & standbys. It's broadway and you're dealing with human beings who are merely 'going to work' - they're bound to miss a day here and there.

Didn't I make my "sh(r)ill" disclaimer? Get over it CRP. I didn't say that DEBORAH didn't sing in the studio, she quite simply, has not had to do anything this rigorous in her career. She's not done many a huge stadium tour, with or without the aid of DAT's.

Unless you're her immediate family, there's no reason you should have such a vehemently negative reaction anytime someone says anything remotely negative about her, even when it's not specifically about her. Btw, if you think Britney spears is the only recording artist that doesn't "sing", you're more out of touch than I think.

Al Dente-

Define family? And no, I'm not vehemently negative towards those who have negative views and opinions of Deborah - I just don't get you ALWAYS having something negative to say with regards to her and not giving her the props she deserves.

You've made nothing but blanket statements that could only be taken as slights to Deborah Cox - being that this thread is in reference to Deborah Cox. Your consistent negative comments about Deborah prove that you are obviously not a follower nor fan, therefore you know nothing about her live performances and tours outside of AIDA.

And surely you knew that I was using Spears as an example and was not implying that she was 'the only' recording artist who doesn't sing. Then again - you probably didn't get that. re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Deborah Cox doesn't do Tuedsay eves or Weds Matinee

What *props* do you think I should be giving her? That she's apparantly good in the role should NOT be a big to-do or such a shocker. Last time I checked, we should be treated to that caliber of a performance/performer every time we plunk down a 100 dollars to see a lead in a big extravagant musical. It's not my fault that the casting powers that be haven't gotten anyone to fill Heather Headly's shoes properly until now. I also know that Cox has NEVER headlined a major stadium tour, so what am I *missing* now CRP. That's a rhetorical question.

Al Dente-

The last time I checked, no one was GUARANTEED to see the marketed 'lead' in any role. You really don't know who you'll get until that creepy little insert falls out of your playbill. And contrary to the belief of many closed minded know it alls - understudies and standbys are performers also. They train/practice just as hard as the leads.

And you talk about Deborah never headlining a major stadium tour - what point are you trying to make here? Are you saying that someone has to have done such a thing in order to handle the standard 8 shows/week typical of broadway?? Tell me this - exactly how many actors/actresses currently on broadway have headlined a stadium tour??

With regards to Ms. Cox, you're *missing* so much - it's pathetic! Updated On: 4/8/04 at 06:57 PM

I agree with ^

And IMHO the role of Christine Daae is more physically and vocally taxing than this role. I love Aida but it does not warrant a 6 perf/week schedule.

I'm so sick of these random posts attacking Deborah. Anyone who has been following the show would know that Deborah has 2 days off from the show during the week. Get a damn grip and get over yourselves.

CRP2000,
I know actors are human and they get sick and stuff happens. But as I said : This was not a understudy. this was a scheduled alternate. Deborah Cox is great in it. She is the only reason I got my folks tickets to this otherwise mediocre show. And also; someone else posted that she has a family and a life and therefore only does 6 shows. What kind of nonsense is this? I have a family and a life and I go to work everyday.

"You really don't know who you'll get until that creepy little insert falls out of your playbill."

CRP, i think it's reasonable to assume, unless told otherwise at the point of sale, that you will be seeing who you expected to see, barring an unforseen illness or injury...

TheaterMafia-

Unfortunately, you and I are not superstars, therefore we can't really compare our work schedules/perks to those of broadway performers - especially Deborah Cox. Again, I'm sorry to hear that your parents missed Deborah on Tuesday, however as far as I know - the only shows that she INTENTIONALLY doesn't do are Wednesday and Sunday matinees. Unless her schedule has changed, I'm sure there was a legit reason she was a no show.

JoeyJoe-

Honestly, I think it's reasonable to assume that assumptions shouldn't be made with regards to bway performances. Anything can happen... and we all know 'sh!t happens'. There have been several instances where in which I've attended a show only to find out (literally seconds before curtain call - via the announcer) that an understudy or standby would be performing - and this is after I was informed otherwise at the point of sale. I've just come to expect the unexpected.

Um, Bree, the six show a week concept goes at least back to Elaine Paige in 'Evita.'

I'm sure it goes further back than that.

Ok, leaving talent alone, is it just me or does Deborahs pic on the poster (also can be seen as CRP's icon) looks a little weird. I have seen many pictures of her - she is a very pretty woman. This one isnt to flattering of her IMO. Sry if that sounds mean, maybe i should say it "doesnt do her justice" or something more diplomatic but w/e *shrugs*

TheaterMafia:

Per dictionary.com, a 'SuperStar' is defined as:

1) A widely acclaimed star, as in movies or sports, who has great popular appeal.
2) One that is extremely popular or prominent or that is a major attraction.

Well, according to definition number 2, Deborah Cox is indeed a SuperStar. What was your basis for saying that she was not?

Seriously CRP, you've now crossed the line way past "healthy" obsession. I don't know or care about what dictionary.com says is a superstar. The last time I checked the unofficial "commonsense.com" (no, not an actual site), A superstar is someone who has household name recognition all over the world. Think, Madonna, Tom Cruise, Britney Spears (there's no accounting for taste). I sincerely doubt that Deborah is in that league. Which is not to say she's not deserving of such *status*, it's just that she doesn't have it, no matter how much you want her to. Being a well-known club diva, which is absolutely what she is, does not make her a "superstar".
