A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Hmmm. Interesting. She's absolutely gorgeous. If she can sing the score as written or if they tailor it for her remains to be seen, but the bigger concern is if there will be an uproar over her casting. She isn't Puerto Rican, she's Cuban. Born in Cuba and raised in Miami. The way things are nowadays people get their panties twisted in knots over casting.
Just a few months ago Sierra Boggess had to step down from a concert version of "West Side Story" because she wasn't Puerto Rican. Mind you she wasn't playing the part - just singing it in a concert setting and some people still felt the need to have a meltdown of epic proportions.

At least with Sierra the producers could use the "talent" argument. As in, not many girls can sing the role like that, and I doubt that's the case here.
So now people can get their panties twisted in knots over both things. Though it will always be weird to me that race should rise above talent. But of course everybody is free to choose what they like to have meltdowns about. I mostly have them when an actress/singer butchers the material.

The issue wasn't that she isn't Puerto Rican. It's that she isn't Hispanic.
Anita is allowed to have a bit more "negative" aura, leaning towards arrogance, Maria should have a much more innocent and friendly, less self-sufficient look and poise about her.

Potatoe, Potato, Tomatoe, Tomato...the point is there should not have been any concerns whatsoever. Sierra was singing the role - in a concert setting...not playing it in a full fledged production.

Or more crudely put: Anita is the streetwise slut and Maria is the overprotected girl next door.
You're not gonna win this argument on this board. You are, however, right. She was a singer singing in a concert and the outrage was outrageous and truly stupid. But not as stupid as her apologizing to the screaming few. She should have taken a leaf from Sarah Silverman today. Meanwhile, anyone who looks at the photos posted here and thinks this young woman should play Maria should perhaps become familiar with the show. But I do love the "in the know" people here.
I worked front of house during the last revival and yes, people often complained to us (for some reason people like to tell merch/bar staff issues with the show) that Josefina was Argentinian, not Puerto Rican.

I am Puerto Rican and I think that's silly. I certainly don't care to see a white actress playing the role, but as long as they are Hispanic, that's fine with me.

Compared to lots of other girls in the pop field, she's a very strong singer and dancer with charisma in spades. Not sure of her acting skills, but she'd be a smart choice for Anita.
